The dates for the 5th annual Alternative Press Expo in San Jose, California
have just been announced. This cool show, where creators and publishers of
independent comics and zines are the main focus of attention, will be
held February 21-22, 1998 at the Parkside Hall in downtown San Jose.
I'd suggest that everyone try to attend. Check out the Web site as it

Subject: (cbiz) ADMINISTRIVIA: Admin Goes West (read)
Date: 07 Oct 1997 17:42:49 -0600 (MDT)
Just FYI: I will be (mostly) offline Friday 10/10 through Monday 10/13.
This should only affect you if you are trying to do one of the following
things:
* Post a message to the list from an address other than you one you
joined from
* Leave the list from an address other than you one you joined from
* Post a message to the list with excessive quoting of another message in it
* Post a message to the list that looks like an administrative request
* Post a message to the list with MIME or binary content
In other words, if you post something over the weekend and it doesn't show up,
it may have been caught by one of the junk filters on the list and would
therefore be dealt with when I return on Tuesday. Please don't panic.

Dear Jeff Mason,
Hope you don't mind me mailing these details regarding my search for
comics suitable for filmmaking. If ok by you, please post to your
affiliates:
I operate Media Pool, a filmmakers co-op based in Phoenix, AZ. I'm
writing You in the hope that you can connect me with writers who would
like to see their comics used for movies.
I'm not terribly concerned with the genre, I just need simple stories
about 80-90 minutes long to be produced with Arizona talent on a
extremely low budget. The ideal story would be similar to the technical
film requirements in "Clerks" and "Reservoir Dogs".
Feel free to pass this information on, my email is:
mediapool@rocketmail.com
Thank You,
Dean Lachiusa

Subject: (cbiz) INFO: Alternative Press, Inc., publications for Feb '98
Date: 22 Oct 1997 18:25:49 -0500 (CDT)
Alternative Press, Inc., publishers of cool comic books and magazines,
will be releasing the following magazine and comic book titles in
February 1998:
indy Magazine #20
Humongous Pack
Information for indy Magazine #20:
Cartoon Network's "Dexter's Laboratory" is sweeping the nation, and show
creator Genndy Tartakovsky explains why in an exclusive interview with
indy Magazine. Multiple Harvey Award and Eisner Award winner Dan Clowes
gives indy readers his view out from behind his Eightball series.
Ignatz Award winner James Kochalka tells readers how he earned the title
"Superstar". This issue has a wild Brian Biggs cover who also talks
about his Dear, Julia. And of course, indy has tons of reviews and
articles to keep readers on top of the wonderful world of independent
comic books! Now a whopping 72 pages at the same low price!
Magazine, 72 pages, $2.95 US, $3.95 Canada.
Information for Humongous Pack:
Special packaged set of issues 1-3 of Humongous Man comic book series
plus a special new original art print, with everything autographed by
creators Jim Harrison and Dan Stepp! Humongous Man is unique in today's
comic market because it breaks from the current mainstream tradition of
manga and anime influences that have crowded today's specialty shops.
Harrison and Stepp draw their influences from the European comics scene,
and the result is a creative synergy of the classic American Superhero
with the eclectic sensibilities and lavish artistic integrity of
European graphic storytelling.
(by Jim Harrison and Dan Stepp) b&w, set of issues 1-3 at 32 pages each
& special print, $5.95 US.
Please contact me if you have any questions, need review material, need
artwork, or would like to be taken off of this list. The official Web
site for Alternative Press, Inc., is:
