  37. On Wednesday the 14th, CartooZine has been launched. CartooZine is an
  38. online comic magazine, that is made exclusively for the Internet. On
  39. CartooZine new talented people get the chance to show their work to an
  40. audience of millions. CartooZine features aspiring artists from around the
  41. globe. Apart from the apparent comic art work, the magazine also gives
  42. writers the opportunity to publish their work; there's a chapter with
  43. articles about comics, and the zine even includes a discussion page.

  45. This non profit e-zine was set up by the Dutch student Gerard Stroomer. 
  46. "It's actually a personal school project for my final year at the School of
  47. Arts in Utrecht (Holland). This project is linked to my thesis, which I am
  48. currently writing about the combination of comics and new media. It is
  49. fairly obvious that is not going well with the comic medium in Western
  50. countries. Magazines and comic bookshops are disappearing and publication
  51. becomes very hard for creators. This seemed like the right time to lift a
  52. project like this off the ground. The Internet is very populair nowadays
  53. and it is possible that a combination of comics and the web can get the
  54. comic medium out of the gutter again. The response I get is enormous! I can
  55. see that there is a great need with authors to get published. Loads of good
  56. work is being made, but cartoonists just do not get the chance to show
  57. their work to the public. I hope that the medium will be given a new
  58. impulse by initiatives like this."

  66. CartooZine:  strips en nieuwe media

  68. Op woensdag 14 juli is CartooZine van start gegaan. CartooZine is het
  69. eerste Nederlandse stripmagazine, dat helemaal voor Internet gemaakt is. Op
  70. CartooZine krijgt vers striptalent de kans haar werk aan een
  71. miljoenenpubliek bekend te maken. Niet alleen aspiranten uit Nederland,
  72. maar ook uit de rest van de wereld kunnen op deze site hun werk laten zien.
  73. CartooZine zal naast tekenwerk ook aan schrijvers de kans bieden hun
  74. kunsten te vertonen. Zo is er een hoofdstuk gewijd aan artikelen over
  75. strips en is op de site zelfs een discussiepagina te vinden.

  77. Dit gratis 'Online Magazine', is opgezet door Gerard Stroomer uit Wognum. 
  78. "Het is eigenlijk een persoonlijk afstudeerproject voor mijn eindstudie
  79. Master of Arts aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. Dit project is
  80. gekoppeld aan mijn scriptie. Deze gaat over strips en Internet, en de
  81. mogelijke combinatie tussen deze twee. Het is namelijk duidelijk dat het
  82. met de strip in Nederland gewoonweg slecht gaat. Dit was onlangs te merken
  83. aan het verdwijnen van Striparazzi (voorheen Sjors en Sjimmie Stripblad).
  84. Het leek me daarom nu de juiste tijd om een project als dit van de grond te
  85. tillen. Aangezien het Internet al een paar jaar ontzettend populair is, kan
  86. een combinatie met strips het medium wellicht nieuw leven inblazen. Je
  87. merkt gewoon aan de respons die je krijgt dat er behoefte is aan publicatie
  88. bij auteurs. Er wordt gewoon een heleboel goed werk gemaakt, maar men
  89. krijgt gewoonweg de kans niet dit naar buiten te brengen. Ik hoop dat het
  90. stripverhaal in Nederland door initiatieven als deze een nieuwe impuls
  91. krijgt."
