  36. SUMMARY: Yeah! IÆm happy. Today is OFFICIALLY 
  37. the first day of my vacation!!! That means that this one
  38. is kind of an "upper," at least compared to the more 
  39. recent parts. YouÆll like this one. IÆve included some 
  40. sarcastic humor. Humor? What's humor?
  41.  
  42. Welcome to my story. It takes place ten years into the 
  43. future, but IÆm not telling you whatÆs happened in 
  44. advance. IÆm going to reveal that as time goes on in 
  45. the story. I love to get feedback, except when my 
  46. mailbox explodes, which is often, but send it anyway!

  52. "Reunion," by Ingrid
  53. Part Eleven: "A Reintroduction"

  56. Buffy was getting more and more agitated the closer they got. 
  57. When they picked up the rental car, she made Angel drive, and 
  58. she watched the baby in the back seat. She couldnÆt stop her 
  59. hands from shaking.
  60.  
  61. If she were a smoker, this would have been her cue to whip out 
  62. a pack of cigarettes and perhaps smoke the entire contents at 
  63. once.
  64.  
  65. But she wasnÆt. What the hell was she supposed to do to quell 
  66. this nervousness- slay a couple hundred vampires?
  67.  
  68. The car crept into the driveway. She could have sworn she saw 
  69. a snail speeding past. Angel was a judicious driver. Funny. SheÆd 
  70. always appreciated it until today. Now she felt like slamming 
  71. down the gas herself.
  72.  
  73. Buffy decided to take the time to look at her surroundings. What 
  74. she saw was gorgeous. The whole scene was covered in snow, 
  75. including the entire landscaped garden. The house was massive, 
  76. its edifice dwarfing anything that stood in front of it. What was 
  77. most beautiful of all was a cement fountain, now non-functional 
  78. and covered with snow, in the shape of a swan.
  79.  
  80. Angel took the baby from her hands as she stepped out of the 
  81. car, probably afraid she would drop it from the way she was 
  82. shaking. 
  83.  
  84. Steady.
  85.  
  86. Xander and Cordy, thatÆs all.
  87.  
  88. Absently, she noticed the forest surrounding and isolating the 
  89. place at the same time. The treeline was dark in contrast with 
  90. the pure white around them. The air was chill and silent, cutting 
  91. thoughts abruptly. Something moved in the woods for a moment, 
  92. and then all was still again.  
  93.  
  94. When she made no move to do so, Angel knocked on the door 
  95. with his free hand. She felt numb. 
  96.  
  97. With a flourish, the great door swung open, and a beautiful woman 
  98. answered. Cordelia, she recognized immediately, and flashed her a 
  99. stupid grin. 
  100.  
  101. SheÆd obviously dressed for the occasion, looking almost as 
  102. nervous as Buffy did, God knows why. Her hair was luxuriantly 
  103. tied into a lose bun, curled strands of the dark silk framing her face. 
  104. Her dress was a pretty, conservative, long gown, in dark green velvet. 
  105. Her wedding band was the only jewelry she wore.
  106.  
  107. She looked prettier now, certainly, if that was possible, but there was 
  108. something different about her that Buffy couldnÆt quite put her finger 
  109. on. She looked cautious now; reserved. 
  110.  
  111. It was almostàresponsibility.
  112.  
  113. After a few moments of staring at each other, Cordelia gathered her 
  114. senses. 
  115.  
  116. "Buffy, Angel, hi! Come on inside! ItÆs cold out there!"
  117.  
  118. She waved them inside, and immediately took notice of Willow.
  119.  
  120. "Oh my God. SheÆs beautiful."
  121.  
  122. Buffy smiled up at her kind expression- something sheÆd never
  123. thought sheÆd see from the former May Queen.
  124.  
  125. The watcher snapped out of her reverie. "IÆm sorry! Can I take 
  126. your coats?"
  127.  
  128. They handed them over.
  129.  
  130. "What, no servants," Angel asked, surprised, when Cordelia was 
  131. gone.
  132.  
  133. "They might find out," Buffy answered logically, painfully aware 
  134. of the secretive nature of the whole business.
  135.  
  136. Cordelia returned quickly, and led them inside. Buffy looked around 
  137. at the beautiful, tasteful interior and then back down at her dress. 
  138. She frowned. The simple long black silk didnÆt seem like enough.  
  139.  
  140. "XanderÆll be down in a minute.  He got inspired about a couple 
  141. of hours ago."
  142.  
  143. They stopped in a modern sitting room, standing in the center.
  144. Cordelia scanned Buffy for a moment and smiled. ThatÆs when 
  145. she was completely taken by surprise. 
  146.  
  147. Cordelia hugged her warmly. "IÆve missed you," she heard over
  148. her shoulder, in a strangely emotional voice, "both of you."
  149. Releasing Buffy, she hugged Angel with the baby still
  150. in his arms.
  151.  
  152. Buffy half expected to see her sneering over AngelÆs shoulder.
  153. Instead, her eyes were closed, a mixture of joy and pain spread 
  154. over her face. 
  155.  
  156. She looked dangerously close to tears.
  157.  
  158. Hell was freezing over, and it wasnÆt so bad, Buffy thought.
  159.  
  160. Cordelia gathered herself together quickly, straightening her dress 
  161. and offering them seats. 
  162.  
  163. "Would you like anything to drink? I got some champagne I think 
  164. youÆll like. We went out and bought it today.
  165.  
  166. They acquiesced, and she returned with three glasses, bubbling
  167. with the ginger liquid. 
  168.  
  169. Buffy sipped at hers slowly, beginning to relax. It was a start.
  170.  
  171. A *good* start. 
  172.  
  173. She heard footsteps coming down stairs and closer. 
  174.  
  175. Xander.
  176.  
  177. She took another sip of champagne as all that relaxation went
  178. right out the window.

  198.    YES!!!  Please repost "Slayer be Slain".  I loved that story. I've already
  199. read it like a million times, but I wouldn't mind one bit reading it another
  200. million.  It is my FAVORITE fanfic.  An excellent example of how fanfic should
  201. be written.  But, that's just my opinion.  Looking forward to reading your
  202. story AGAIN AND AGAIN,

  263. I often say that name to myself in a whisper that seems to echo in the
  264. silence of the night.  That one single word that causes pain to rise from
  265. my heart and tears to fall my eyes.  Memories of his love and my love for
  266. him, that seem so ancient to this day, clash with new ones made of his
  267. hate against me and that which sprung from mine against him.
  268.  
  269. Although I know it is but that alternate self that I hate, I cannot help
  270. but still see the golden heart of that which use to be dominate in his
  271. image.  They are the same, yet they are different, and how can this be? 
  272. The same image shared, but two differing feelings of heart I have for
  273. something one in the same.  My mind is clouded with battling memories and
  274. heartache of two types, each worse and worse by day and by night.  I long
  275. to understand, but such knowledge I have yet to find.

  277. Angelus...Angel...
  278.  
  279. Two names, two souls, two hearts, contained in but one form.  In my mind,
  280. I can separate the two, but in my heart I see them still as one.  A
  281. change so sudden that it made be stumble and it made me fall.  And as I
  282. fell into the darkest depths I wondered how I could live without you.  In
  283. time, my lost self was found, but my lost heart forever gone.

  285. He's not the same guy you knew...
  286.  
  287. They all say to me that he isn't the same and that the one I love is
  288. gone, but I cannot accept such words.  He is not gone and shall never be
  289. gone.  I have accepted that not in bodily vessel shall find his heart,
  290. but within me he lives.  Within my heart he dwells, and within all that
  291. is myself, he shall survive.
