Subject: BUFFYFIC: Challenges
Just a short netiquette note regarding fiction challenges...
Challenges <are> a great way to "provoke" fiction. However, on many fiction
lists it's standard that if you post a challenge, you must also post the
first story of the challenge-- don't just post a challenge for Ethan and
Willow fic, but post the first story dealing with E&W (this is an EXAMPLE,
obviously <G>).
This isn't a list rule, but please keep it in mind as a really good idea.
Thanks.

Lost & Found (1/?)
"You can walk?"
"Yeah, isn't it great?"
The blond vampire stood before her with an overly excited grin on
his face. Buffy wasn't expecting Spike to be capable of a fight.
"So, did you ask me here just to show off?" Buffy was looking for
any way out of the present situation. Her friends were in danger and Spike
was getting in the way.
"No, actually, I called you here to fight." Spike walked slowly towards
Buffy, showing off his re-aquired skills.
"Well then, what are you waiting for?"
"Absolutely nothing."
Buffy awoke to the sound of her stomach. She hadn't eaten anything in days
and was starved. She quietly got out of bed making sure not to disturb
Xander. He was right about one thing, as a vampire, he was much more
attractive to Buffy.
She walked down the cold metal stairs dressed in a long silk black gown. It
was day and vampires laid scattered around the warehouse floor. Across the
room she saw a lone vampire curled up on the ground. Buffy sat down next to
him and carressed his arm. Before he could wake, she sunk her teeth into his
neck. She had learned that the blood of a vampire tasted greater than any
blood she had ever had. Satisfied, Buffy headed back to bed.
Years had passed since Buffy became a vampire and she was haunted day and
night by all the unconcible things she had done. Drusilla wanted her to
suffer, and she did. She killed her family, her friends, everyone. The memory
of their deaths was constantly on her mind. Weeks after Buffy became a
vampire, she tracked down Cordelia and Oz and transformed them. Cordelia was
killed in battle against Kendra over a year ago. Cordelia just never had the
heart to be a vampire.
Buffy awoke suddenly to the memories of death in her mind. She could feel
that sun down was near. She clawed through the closet until she found a
beautiful blue dress to wear. After she finished getting dressed, Buffy woke
Xander with a kiss. The two headed downstairs where Willow and Oz were already
eating.
"We may be better off if you two would stop eating other vampires," Drusilla
said as Angel carried her down the stairs.
The two looked up for a second but then returned to their meals.
"I guess they don't care, Dru." Buffy took every chance she got to attack
Drusilla. Even as a vampire, Buffy hated her. Angel placed Drusilla down on
her own two feet.
"Did you sleep well last night, Buffy?"
"I think you know the answer to that," Buffy said as she glared at Drusilla.
"I'm hungry. Let's go eat." Buffy tugged at Xander's arm and he followed her
out of the warehouse. Willow and Oz had already eaten and headed back to bed.
"Why do you hate her so much Dru?"
"Angel, have you not been paying attention these past years?"
"She's one of us now. She's paid more than enough for the damage she has
done."
Drusilla slapped Angel across the face, hard. "How dare you!"
"Even at your full strengh, you're still insane. Spike is dead, he deserved
to die. Get over it!" Angel began to leave the room in a huff.
"Never." Drusilla stared into open space. "I think it's time to bring out the
secret weapon."
"What?"
"You, will just have to wait and see." A faint smile appeared on her face and
grew into a giant grin as she fell to the ground laughing. "Oooh, this is
going to be fun."
*****
"Oh my God! Your...your...alive!" Buffy stared wide-eyed at the somewhat
familiar face that stood before her. "I killed you, how are you..."
"Drusilla brought me back. She said you needed to be taught a lesson."
Buffy looked at Dru and saw the exagerated smile on her face. "What, killing
my family and friends wasn't enough for you? Watching everyone I ever loved
die in front of me, because of me, wasn't enough?" Buffy stood a few inches
away from Drusilla. "Huh, you had to go and do this?"
"It will never be enough." The thought of killing Drusilla right there
crossed her mind. Buffy turned to face the one she thought she had put out of
harms way.
"Dru, you're going to pay for this." Buffy looked at Giles. Spike's image
filled her mind. His vampiric faces that stood their waiting to attack. She
growled and lunged at Giles but stopped mid-stride and turned around quickly.
Before Drusilla had a chance to respond, Buffy had her pinned against the
ground.
"I didn't kill Spike."

Lost & Found (2/?)
"What?" Drusilla's voice was faint.
Buffy paused for a few minutes as she played her fight with Spike
over and over in her head.
"I didn't kill him." Buffy seemed relieved to remember what had
happened. "You sent Spike to stall me while you and Angel attacked my
friends." Buffy got off of Dru and began to walk around to warehouse.
"He wanted to kill me himself. He wanted to prove to you that he could
do it and Angel couldn't."
Drusilla sat up and stared blankly at Angel. "I..." Drusilla started but
couldn't finish.
"All these years it haunted me, but it always stopped before I killed him.
Now I know why."
"If you didn't kill him, then where is he?" Angel finally said. Drusilla
stood up in anticipation of Buffy's answer.
"I convinced him that no matter who killed me, Dru would still love the both
of you." Buffy stopped her pacing and turned to walk to Drusilla. "He pulled
out a railroad spike, and lunged at me with it. I threw him into a wall and
when he landed, I took the spike from his hands. Just as I was about to kill
him, he stopped me. 'Don't. Let me go. I'll run away and you'll never see me
again.'" Drusilla found a chair and fell into it. "I plunged the spike into
his stomach and left."
"How do you know he's not dead?" Willow's voice trembled slightly. "I fought
him many times, he's too tough to die."
"Why didn't you tell me before?" There was almost compassion in Drusilla's
voice.
"Because I'm not stupid. You already had my friends, and I was in no shape to
take you." The room became suddenly quiet.
"And she would have killed you anyway," Xander said breaking the silence.
"Exactly." Buffy walked up the stairs back to her room. Everyone remained
still in a state of shock as she left.
When the sun went down the next day, Buffy finally left her room to go feed.
When she returned, she found the warehouse abandoned. A note was left on the
dining table.

Lost & Found (3/?)
When Drusilla returned with Willow and Xander from hunting,
they found Buffy seated on the ground holding the note tight in her hands.
"Buffy, are you alright?" Xander asked as he rushed to her side.
She crumpled up the note in her hands.
"Fine," she said faintly. Buffy quickly got to her feet and rushed
out of the room.
Willow watched as she ran up the stairs. "What's up with her?"
"I don't know," Xander said as he followed after her.
Thoughts were racing through Buffy's head. She couldn't think
straight. What had she done?
"I've got to stop this," Buffy whispered to herself.
A hand touched her shoulder, startling her. "Buffy," he said
searching her eyes for what was troubling her.
"I have to leave."
"What? Where?"
"I can't explain. I just have to go." Buffy grabbed some clothes
from the closet and shoved them in to a small duffel bag. "Keep an
eye on everyone for me. Especially Drusilla," she said as she threw
the bag onto the bed.
"Buffy, I don't understand." Buffy walked over to the dresser and
opened a jewelry box that sat on top. Memories of her love for Angel
clouded her thoughts. The claddagh ring he gave her, the necklace.
Xander pulled Buffy around to face him, his eyes pleading for an answer.
"I care about you, and you know it. Our love for eachother is sickening
to vampires." Buffy paused for a moment. "I have to do this and I can't
explain. Just make sure that Drusilla stays here. Don't let her come after
me."
"Where?!?" Buffy broke away from his grasp and retrieved the bag
from the bed. She returned to the dresser and took the claddagh ring
from it. She admired it for a second before shoving it into a small
compartment in the bag. Then she carefully took the cross and put it
in as well.
"I have to go," Buffy said looking to Xander one last time. She
hurried out of the bedroom as Xander watched.
When Drusilla's back was turned, Buffy quietly left the warehouse.
She hurried to the docking yard and waited. A clear image of the note
remained fresh in her mind. She couldn't get rid of it. She knew she
had to stop Angel.
