No, you're right, it's not the exact same situation. And I think
that's actually a good point. From what I recall about the reasons
for disliking Xander's lie in B2, one put forth --not by you though,
if I recall correctly -- was that, plain and simple, Xander lied to
Buffy and kept information from her. Who was he to decide what was
best for Buffy to know or not know. Well, he kept info from her here
in NKABOTFD also (and thus "lied" by ommission).
At the time, I argued that I didn't like this reasoning because other
characters had lied and kept stuff to themselves and weren't
villified for it. Here we see more evidence that these
characters acting as though they know what is best for other
characters to know or not know is not necessarily a bad thing and
that it needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. So, although
I can respect (but perhaps disagree with) arguments such as yours
that Xander's lie in B2 is more egregious than his actions here, it's
not as simple as "Xander lied to Buffy in B2, therefore he was
wrong."

I'll agree with that. That's why I mentioned last week about
Xander's comment in The Witch. When he found out that chopping off
Amy's head would cure Buffy of that vengeance spell, without a second
thought he was all for it. Even though as Buffy said, Amy wasn't
really at fault, it was her mother. So in these last two first season
repeats, we've seen consistency in Xander's character that can explain
that the motivation behind his lie to Buffy in B2 wasn't just simple
jealousy of Angel.
Just to summarize. Obviously, people are free to hate Xander or to
dislike his lie in B2, but I think in these last two first season
repeats, we've seen things in Xander that shed light on that B2 lie.
1. If you're going to hate him for keeping information from Buffy, I
think you need to argue why it was so egregious in that situation to
do so (as both of the people I'm responding to essentially do). I
don't think it's enough to say it's wrong simply to act as though you
know what's best for others and keep information from them. It seems
to me that we've seen cases where this really is the right course of
action.
2. If you want to hate Xander for the motivations behind his B2 lie,
I think you need to accept that a good chunk of it was his desire to
see Buffy free of harm. It wasn't just jealousy of Angel as his
previous actions in The Witch illustrate.

Subject: BUFFY: Overnight ratings for SAR
Last night's repeat of Some Assembly Required (the 3rd time it has
been shown) got a 3.4 rating/6 share in the overnight Nielsens for
households. Overnight ratings are based on viewing in only 40 of the
largest television markets, not the nation as a whole. The Invasion
America that aired after Buffy had a 3.3/5 (down from a 3.5/6 last
week).
Here are the overnight numbers for the last few Tuesday Buffy
repeats: BB&B got a 3.7 rating/6 share last week; Killed By Death
received a 3.9/6 on June 9th; and on June 2nd, the 2-hour WTTH & The
Harvest had a 4.1/7.

Subject: BUFFY: SMG on Conan - Good Stuff
Don't know how many of you saw the SMG/Conan show last night, but I was
quite happy with it..... she talked for almost 25 minutes, barring
commercials! Talked about the new movies she's doing and what not, and
basic stuff about the show, but nothing specific about the new season or
Buffy movie.
Not too sure about the red hair, but I love the length!!! ;)
Some pretty funny stuff, where she got to be SMG, a person, rather than
SMG the tv actress and movie star........One of the nice things about
Conan's interviews, they're a bit more laid back, and he DID seem to
know about the show, at least a little.
"Now I just have to convince her (SMG) that I'm not a vampire, I'm just
pasty!" Conan O'Brien - tv blurb regarding SMG on the show....

Subject: BUFFY: SOME COMMENTS ON THE CONAN INTERVIEW
The thing that really pleased me about this interview is that Sarah is
actually LESS mature than I thought that she was. Now don't take this out of
context. I certainly do not think that Sarah is IMMATURE. On the contrary.
But understand the image that I previously had of Sarah Michelle Gellar:
I had always pictured her as a 30 year old in a 21 year olds body. I had read
the Rolling Stone interview where she had stated that she "has to date older
guys". I naturally assumed that this statement was a cop out, and that she
simply PREFERED older men. Girls that date older guys happen to be my pet
peeve.... but bare with me here. This interview combined with that new WB
commercial convinced me that the aforementioned statement wasn't a cop out,
and that she really DOES have to date older men being that, typically, she has
more in common with them. I was also convinced that she does indeed get along
very well with guys her own age (sitting on Joshua Jackson's lap in the WB
commercial). Now... again... don't take this out of context. I don't plan...
nor have I ever planned, on dating SMG. But ... she IS my favorite actress
and, well.... why not psychoanylize her? :)

Hi,
Does anyone know what next Tuesday's ep is going to be? I didn't see a promo after Some Assembly Required and I wanted to know which ep it is.
Thanks!
