  144. Is it just me, or is it really nice to watch these first season episodes 
  145. because they don't have all the emotional trauma that the second season 
  146. does?  Don't get me wrong--I love the second season, but it's neat to 
  147. watch Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Giles really get to know each other and 
  148. become close friends.

  163. 1.  Another thoroughly enjoyable repeat.  I got a lot more laughs out 
  164. of this episode than most.  I'm trying to decide why I like all these 
  165. first season shows so much; if it's just nostalgia, whether they 
  166. really are "better", or whether I just like this type of episode 
  167. more than the angst-ridden stuff that seems to dominate now.  Not 
  168. that this episode wasn't poignant.  It did a fine job establishing 
  169. the problems that Buffy would encounter in trying to have a normal 
  170. relationship.  Of course her decision to have a "non-normal" one 
  171. didn't exactly work out so hot either.  But she does seem to like 
  172. those brooding loners.  
  173.  
  174. 2.  To all the Xander-haters: what's your opinion on his actions 
  175. during the final fight scene?  Buffy's doing a good job fighting that 
  176. big guy using the anger she's gained from thinking that Owen is dead. 
  177.  Willow is about to blurt out that Owen's not dead after all and 
  178. Xander shuts her up, realizing that knowledge might affect Buffy's 
  179. fighting ability.  Hmm, seems kind of familiar, Xander keeping 
  180. information from Buffy as she's in a big fight.  I assume he deserves 
  181. to be beaten mercilessly for this??  
  182.  
  183. 3.  I never have thought much of the concept of the Annointed One.  I 
  184. realize that he was talked up in this episode as "a warrior", "the 
  185. Master's greatest weapon against the Slayer" and so on, in order for 
  186. us to think that the Annointed was actually that large fellow saying 
  187. "pork 'n beans, pork 'n beans" (among other things) rather than 
  188. Colin, the child.  Fine, I assume that worked for most (I saw the 
  189. episodes out of order last year so I already knew who the Annointed 
  190. was).  But what exactly was the purpose of the A1 after this shock 
  191. value.  He did basically nothing.  True, he led Buffy to The Master 
  192. in Prophecy Girl.  That's about it as far as I can tell.  He 
  193. certainly never seemed like any great warrior or weapon.  Three 
  194. cheers to Spike for frying the little demon as far as I'm concerned. 
  195.  
  196. 4.  Sorry, I can't get through a whole post without mentioning how 
  197. absolutely amazing Charisma Carpenter looked.  As for Cordelia, her 
  198. nastiness wasn't nearly as scary as in The Witch.  Here, it seemed as 
  199. though she had to be that way to Buffy, more or less because it's 
  200. part of her job as popular girl.  And she seems to feel that as long 
  201. as she's doing that job well, everyone should adore her.  I loved how 
  202. she seemed genuinely stunned when Owen asked who else would be at The 
  203. Bronze.  "You mean, besides me?!?"  And who can forget, "Hello salty 
  204. goodness ..."  followed by Angel heading straight to Buffy.

  281. Though I am not one of the resident Xander-haters, I have to comment on this.
  282. Great point, Jeff!  This scene really sets the precident for the Xander
  283. "incident" in B2.  In light of this development, I personally am going to take
  284. back SOME of the mean things I've said about Xander's reason for not telling
  285. Buffy being purely selfish.  Joss does stuff like this so often, sets us up
  286. for something so far in advance, and we think that we have no idea what is
  287. going to happen, when in fact, all the clues are there for us to follow.  All
  288. hail Joss, god of all things!

  501. Onto SAR: I've heard (read?) alot of talk about how Angel's appearance at the
  502. end of this ep seemed a little forced.  I think that I am going to have to
  503. agree with this assessment.  I mean really, "I saw the fire and figured you
  504. would be here?"  How lame is that?   (Now I'll probably get attacked by swarms
  505. of RABID Angel fans, huh? :)   But let me continue.  Although his initial
  506. apperance seemed kind of out of place, I think that he definatly redeemed
  507. himself with that final cute scene with Buffy.  "Love makes you do the
  508. wacky..."  I love that whole dialogue between Buffy and Angel.

  532. I definitely have to agree here.  It was definitely one of the more moving
  533. scenes I've seen.  It ranks right up there with the end of B2 and the final
  534. scene between Giles and Buffy in NKABOTFD.  Very touching.

  578. Watching it again, the other thing I noticed about the fire aftermath 
  579. scene was how ironic it was.  We had Buffy and Giles with their 
  580. loved ones whereas Willow and Xander are lamenting the fact that they 
  581. can't even get a date.  How quickly things change.

  594. Last week's two repeats -- Monday's The Witch and Tuesday's 
  595. Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered -- got national Nielsen 
  596. ratings for households of 2.6 and 2.4, not necessarily in that order. 
  597.  Which episode got which rating: you make the call!  The only 
  598. listings I've seen so far didn't differentiate.  (Based on the

  603. was tied for 4th and the other was tied for 6th.  The top rated WB 
  604. program of the week was a repeat of 7th Heaven which received a 3.1, 
  605. placing it in a 91st place tie overall.

  608. differentiates the two episodes (perhaps from tomorrow's print 
  609. versions of USA Today or the LA Times), please post it.

  611. Here are the national household ratings for the last several 
  612. Tuesday repeats: Killed By Death (June 9) scored a 2.5; on June 2, 
  613. WTTH got a 3.0 and The Harvest had a 3.3; and Phases and Passion both 
  614. got a 2.7 on May 26th.

  616. The week before The Witch, the premiere of Invasion America aired 
  617. on The WB in that Monday at 9 EDT time slot.  It scored a 2.7.   The 
  618. last time a Buffy repeat aired on a Monday, it was Inca Mummy Girl on 
  619. January 5 and it received a 3.1.  Finally, the original airing of The 
  620. Witch back on March 17, 1997 got a 3.2 rating.

  752. There is on WB on our cable network.  I go over to a friend's house who has a
  753. sattelite dish.  There is a minimum of 5 other people who go to her house on

  755. share with my mother. (and I'm 29 myself.)  IMHO, Buffy would have a much
  756. bigger following if more people had the access to the WB network.  Joss is a

  938. Buffy movie produced by Joss Whedon?  Or was all that just a rumor?  I'm
  939. assuming if there is a Buffy movie the tv cast would be used as Whedon
  940. has stated that he loves the BtVS tv cast so much he would love to put
  941. them in his other projects.  Even if he said that jokingly, it indicates
  942. he is strongly inclined to use them for the movie.  It only makes sense
  943. since the fans of the tv show would be furious if he didn't.
