Subject: (andina) RARE BOOK

Hi Andinos
I found this book for sale:
MELODIES POPULAIRES INDIENNES EQUATEUR, PEROUS,
BOLIVIE. By Raoul d=27Harcourt
It contains around 120 pages of music notation and is reported to
be a very good reference book with many pictures of various
instruments etc. The asking price is =24225 US, too rich for me.
The book seller is prepared to photocopy all 120 music pages for
=241 US plus postage, alas also too much.
In case anyone has this kind of money the seller is :
Harry Nudel nudel-soho=40mindspring.com
My price for this info if willing is a copy of the music for which am
prepared to negotiate a reasonable price or trade.

Hi Ken (& list)!
You might be able to borrow a copy of the book for a few weeks through Interlibrary Loan at your local library. There would probably be
a fee for the service, but significantly less than the cost of buying the book, and you could copy the pages you want.
I just checked the database at my university and found a citation for a book which I assume is the same as the one you mentioned:
"Melodies populaires indiennes: Equateur, Perou, Bolivie", by Marguerite Harcourt, 1923, 127 pages, "Indian dialect and French words
with music for 1 voice with piano acc."
which is available from several libraries in the United States. I don't know if you would be able to borrow it on Interlibrary Loan in
Australia, but I used to work in Interlibrary Loan and we occasionally got books from out of the country when they weren't available
anywhere closer, so it might be worth a try.
Good luck!

Hi Jennifer
Umm well I asked at our local library and they told me that Interlibrary =
loan did not allow them to borrow the actual book but they can get =
photocopies at much greater than normal rate. By past experience the cost =
is such that I may as well just buy the book.
I don=27t know if this is just bad advice or if Australia=27s interlibrary =
system just plain stinks. It=27s just soooo frustrating here I can=27t
seem to get anything especially foreign language publications=21=21
It is only through the kindness of people on this list that I have been =
able to obtain the few book I have, mind you that=27s a lot of songs
but I always greedily want more, more more (grin).
