  20. An FPAD is a facility which offers a G3 facsimile equipment the 
  21. opportunity to use a public data network to convey facsimile control 
  22. and image data to another G3 facsimile equipment or to an application 
  23. DTE. The FPAD also allows an application DTE to establish a connection 
  24. and to send control and image data to a G3 facsimile equipment.

  26. It is an underlying principle of the FPAD environment that to the 
  27. degree possible, the performance and quality of the service of the 
  28. two G3 facsimile equipments as available today utilizing the general 
  29. switched telephone network are not negatively affected.

  31. Support for the following cases is provided in the FPAD Series of 
  32. Recommendations:

  34.     a) A G3 facsimile equipment to a G3 facsimile equipment - A 
  35.        G3 facsimile equipment establishes a call to a G3 facsimile 
  36.        equipment, dialling in one or two stages the number of the 
  37.        called G3 facsimile equipment:

  39.     -  the calling G3 facsimile equipment transmits document(s) to 
  40.        the called G3 facsimile equipment;
  41.  
  42.     -  the called G3 facsimile equipment transmits document(s) to 
  43.        the calling G3 facsimile equipment.

  45.     b) A G3 facsimile equipment to an application DTE - A G3 
  46.        facsimile equipment establishes a call to an application 
  47.        DTE, dialling in one or two stages the number of the called 
  48.        application DTE:

  50.     -  the calling G3 facsimile equipment transmits document(s) 
  51.        to the called application DTE;
  52.  
  53.     -  the called application DTE transmits document(s) to the 
  54.        calling G3 facsimile equipment.

  56.     c) An application DTE calling to a G3 facsimile equipment - An 
  57.        application DTE establishes a call to a G3 facsimile 
  58.        equipment:

  60.     -  the calling application equipment transmits document(s) to 
  61.        the called G3 facsimile;

  63.     -  the called G3 facsimile equipment transmits document(s) to 
  64.        the calling application DTE.
