----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear listener,
this textfile is to give you some guiding information on the modules
contained on this bit of the CD. I really hope you enjoy listening to the
tunes as well as reading these lines.
First of all, some information on myself, the author of the modules and my
'scene history'. All of the mods have been created under the handle
'Jester', even though my real name is Volker Tripp. I started making modules
in early 1989 on my own without any contacts to other musicians or computer
"freaks". Towards the end of the same year I joined a group named 'Treacl'
(knowing that the spelling of the word was wrong) but I soon left them to
join Proton in 1990. After leaving them and staying with RSI for a very
short time (without ever doing anything for them) I finally ended up as a
member of the well-known Amiga group Sanity in 1991. I contributed to demos
such as Elysium, Optimum Fuckup, Terminal Fuckup, World of Commodore 92,
Sanity Is Dead, Roots and also two musicdisks entitled Fools's Gold and
Jesterday. During my time with Sanity I also worked for a number of other
creative groups, as for example Anarchy Germany ('Flower Power') and Pygmy
Projects ('Extension'). Apart from all these activities I kept myself busy
with writing tunes for various diskmags, minor scene productions and
commercial games once in a while.
As you will not fail to notice the modules included on this CD cover the
whole range of my work in the scene (chronologically as well as
artistically). There are a lot of really old (and SAD!) tunes but also all
of my later compositions that have become surprisingly popular in the scene.
So, I suppose some of the stuff included might make you laugh (at least,
that's what happened to me when I went through the songs).
Without exception the modules have been created using an Amiga 500 with 1MB
of RAM, an external drive, a mon and a Deluxe sound sampler. The programmes
I used were Protracker 2.2a and Noisetracker. Even though there were better
versions of Protracker available I prefered to stick to the old version for
some reason (which is not clear to myself, really).
Now for some things about myself. I was born in Bocholt/Germany on the 12th
of August 1972 and lived there until I was 21. Currently, I am studying law
at the university of Muenster/Germany.
My studies are the chief reason why I have withdrawn from the Amiga demo
scene since the beginning of 1994. I really had very little time to deal
with all the letters and contacts and so I finally considered it to be
better to leave the scene behind. Furthermore, I had accumulated quite some
powerful 'proper' music-equipment by that time so doing music on the Amiga
seemed pointless. Since early 1994 I have exclusively written modules for
commercial productions.
One aspect that always seems to be of interest are the "influences"
(in other words: favoured music of other people) one has.
So I will let you know whose work I have found the most appealing and
inspiring over the years.
On the Amiga I am really fond of the tunes by Romeo Knight (esp. his early
work), Moby, Heatbeat, Julius, Uncle Tom, Bruno, Bit Arts (some mods),
Nightlight, Mantronix & Tip and Lizardking. The list is probably incomplete
but what can you do. Non-Amiga music I like is being done by PSB, New
Order, The Smiths, FGTH, Beastie Boys, Corduroy, Fanta 4, NIN, Danny
Elfman, Bernhard Herrman, Claude Debussy and many more. I do have a wide
range of musical likings so once more, the list is incomplete.
Apart from my module-music I have been involved in creating 'proper' music
including vocals etc. for a very long time, too. 'Minimal Art' and their
debut 'Simplicity' was my first ever demotape of these activities and it
sold roundabout 200 copies. Right now, I am working on my own in this field
but I'm still looking for people who are interested in synthetic music with
vocals (broad direction: New Order, Pet Shop Boys - pop with a touch of
wave).
The equipment I use nowadays includes an Akai S2800, Tascam 4 track, Sure SM
58 mic, Yamaha fx proc, Roland D10, Yamaha TG33, Behringer Autocom, Yamaha
Pacifica guitar, H&K Tubeman, CryBaby Wah Wah, Sony DAT Recorder.
I can be contacted for commercial productions for Amiga, PC or other media
via internet or regular mail. The addresses are:
Volker Tripp
In der Ziegelheide 15
46397 Bocholt

Tel.: +49-2871-14692

Now I wish you much enjoyment listening to the musics. They should comprise
the entire spectrum of my work - from very early first tries to the quite
popular and successful modules of later times.
Volker Tripp.
