> Gryzor on the keys: [21-Apr-96]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, finally, it's my turn to write my own info-file, after asking to do
so to all the musicians I have contacted since October '95 :-)
As I'm a little bit lazy at the moment (close to the end of this project),
I have chosen to include one of the interviews I have answered to, in the
past. It's the one for DISC 11, written in June '95 (so almost 1 year ago)
but you will find many informations about me and my activities in it.
Simply remember that it was written one year ago, some things have changed.
But just as an introduction, let's state some facts:
Real Name................... Nicolas FRANCK
Age......................... 27 (since yesterday! :-)) So old.........?
Handle...................... Gryzor, ex-AmigaTBC, ex-AmsTBC ;-)
Living...................... In France, near Paris (50km south-east)
E-mail...................... gryzor@club-internet.fr
Current Computer............ Amiga A4000/030 - 2MB CHIP - 20MB FAST
560MB IDE HD - 1.2GB IDE HD - 4.3GB SCSI HD
(full of modules! :^)) - 2X CD-Rom Drive
Computer Motivations........ Music (composing and listening ;)
Programming (system, no more demos)
Modules' Collecting (really? =)
Computer Story.............. Started in '82 if I remember well when I got
an Oric Atmos (yeah!). Playing games, of coz'
but started to program in Basic ;)
Then I got a cool Amstrad CPC 6128 in 1985,
I kept on playing ;) but also kept on coding
(started to learn Assembler Z80) and started
to be interested in music too..
Finally got a wonderful Amiga 500 in Jan '88,
it was THE PASSION!! I played a little at the
beginning but quickly got interested in the
creative aspect of the Amiga. I started to
learn MC68000 Assembler (just cool!) and
felt in love with the Soundtracker concept
(Thank you Karsten Obarski! ;-)
As a MusiCoder, I released some music-disks
(both coded and sounded by me ;) but I also
started to program the Amiga System, in order
to create little utilities. I bought an A4000
in July '94. Now wait'n see for the future...
Demo-Scene Activities....... Well, yes, at the beginning, in '89 till '92,
I founded the group DMACON with some friends,
and we released several music-disks, then I
spent some time in DRD (before army), then HMD
(after army) when I released my 5th music-disk
"HMD - Endless Melodies", then I left the demo
side, to concentrate on utility-programming.
And what about composing.... I almost stopped... sadly :(
Several reasons for this: lack of inspiration,
lack of time (programming takes much time...),
bored of the "4 tracks limitations" (I guess).
But I still LOVE music, and I'm looking 4ward
to trying MultiChannels, it should bring back
my motivation, for sure!
Utility Releases............ Small music rippers and converters in early '93
then the first version of Pro-Wizard in Aug '93
an efficient and user-friendly music-converter,
but you will be able to read more about it in
the interview, below...
Shareware version of Pro-Wizard in Apr '94,
Latest version: still v2.20 in Aug '95.
Collecting Modules.......... Since the very beginning! :-))
And you have the result of this passion in your
hands now ;) Hope you will enjoy it!
Indeed, it was (is!) a Great Passion, not just
'collecting', but I always made my best to note
many informations in the AmigaDOS file-comments
of all my mods (author, composing date, coming
from this demo, made for that music-compo....)
I've always had only one thing in mind:
R E S P E C T O F T H E C O M P O S E R !
And everybody should feel the same...
Favorite MODs Composers..... Too many! :) But especially those who compose
smooth'n cool ballads, and great funky music!
But in fact, I do enjoy most styles of mods,
except hard-rock and hard-core, maybe ;-)
I even still love the good 'oldies' from '88,
composed with the 'ST-01' sample-disk =) and
I'm also very fond of synthetic mods, hhmmm...
BTW, about oldies, don't forget to have a look
at the '/Lists/Guides/Oldies_Forever!.guide'
file (there's the same in ASCII too).
I hope that you will appreciate my efforts in
creating all these AmigaGuide files... ;^)
And what about real music... It's the same, I listen to many many styles of
music, really. I have some 'periods' though...
Sometimes I come back to the old good Funky
tapes I own for ages ('80-85), then I feel like
enjoying some pieces of Trance/Goa (yes, yes..)
then a 'smooth' period may come (yes, I'm very
sentimental ;). I also love some movie musics!
Hhhmmm, Vangelis' "Blade Runner" is one of my
fav'! Esp. "Blade Runner Blues" ......
But there's something I must point out:
I can easily listen to mods as well as real CDs
during a very LONG time! I'm a real fool of the
'Repeat' function, hehe :) I can loop'n loop
a mod for hours! (C'est combien ton record deja
TNO ? :)) And it's the same with real music...
Addicted?................... Definitely! But no need for drugs to flyyyy...
Just a touching piece of Music...
Apart from computers........ When I have some spare time (I didn't, almost
for one year!!) I enjoy playing billiard (the
French one, with the 3 balls, you know ;).
(I even won a competition in late '91!)
I like Chess game too, really fascinating...
I also enjoy playing bowling (but couldn't for
ages.....), I like Martial Arts too, I used to
practise the Nunchaku ;) And finally, I mustn't
forget maybe my favorite sport: Free-Style!
I mean on a kind of Bmx you know, but not for
races. I have scanned my bike :) just look at
the "Gryzor-6-Freestyle.JPG" picture, huhu..
Really I love this... Good sense of balance,
high precision and concentration are required!
Unfortunately, I used to practise almost TEN
years ago! Yes, 10! :( So far away...
Now I'm a bit tall for my bike ;) but I will
try to practise again this summer (hehe, pas
vrai Elizium? :)
Do I have to point out that I c-a-n-'-t live
without music!? =)
Any project?................ M-U-S-I-C ! If I finally get some equipment,
I'm waiting for so long...
Finally..................... I would like to DEEPLY thank all the musicians
I have contacted since the beginning of this
huge CD-Rom project, both via Internet and via
snail-mail. It was a crazy work, believe me!
But look at the results! At last, a GOOD mods-
compilation, made with passion, not for money,
with the permission of most of the composers.
This has never been done before! So LOVE it! :)
All the mods-composers deserve this gift.
Thanks also to.............. All my family, thanks for your support :)
In fact, I planned to make a complete Greets'
list, but it's........impossible! :(
So I will just thank all my friends'n contacts
from: The Melun Club Delirium :)
The Net (especially to Peter Kunath!)
RTEL family (Kikoo α tou(te)s ;)
#trax on IRC (see you very soon all)
Pro-Wizard's family (all reg. users) =)
and all the modules' lovers in the world.
Ciaaaoooooo tutiii!

Here comes the Interview for D.I.S.C. #11
Written in June '95
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Titel: Gryzor.... the real mugician wizard?????
The answer from Gryzor.... also wellknown as Nicolas FRANCK,
the Pro-Wizard author!!
* Welcome Gryzor to this new interview for Disc... before talking
about the usual facts, can you introduce yourself to the readers!!
Well, Hello Everybody !
My real name is Nicolas FRANCK (Yes, Nico is my firstname too ;-))
My Amiga-handle is Gryzor, this since 1988 when I sold my dear CPC 6128
(yes! "Gryzor" comes from the famous CPC's game) and bought a sweet A500 !
I'm a 26 years old computer (esp. Amiga) lover, I'm French and living near
Paris (50km at south-east) !
My main motivations (on Amiga) are music and programmation (and should I
say 'collecting modules' ?? ;-))
* You are involved on the french amiga scene since a quite long time...
always be independant?? And why independant?? You can make also a
long carrier in a scene group as musician, not interested???
Hmmm.. Yes as I said above, I'm involved in the "scene" for 6-7 years.
In fact, in 1988, as everybody did at the beginning, I started to play
games on my brand new Amiga, but nearly one year later, I discovered
that this machine had other great capabilities, especially in CREATING !
Thus, I started to try making gfx, muzax, started to learn 68000,
I wanted to try each domain... But, I saw very quickly that I was NOT
a skilled graphician ;) Even a rather baaad one... On the contrary,
thanks to the Sountracker concept (Ohh thanks Karsten!) I saw that I was
more talented at making music (at least a little bit).
I didn't play any real instrument but the Sountracker concept allowed me
to materialize my ideas of melody, etc... This was very very great at
that time, seeing what one could make with this fantastic program...
Then, and to answer your 2nd question, no I wasn't always independant !
In late '88, I founded the group DMACON with a friend, then 2 other
pals joined us, and we released 4 music-disks between Feb-89 and Feb-92.
In all of them I've done both coding and musics, ohh poor coding of coz..
The 4th music-disk was made as I joined some great friends in Dreamdealers
but then (Feb-92) I was called in the army :( and I really think that
this long 'break' was the beginning of my low-music-activity... alas..
However, after army, in 1993, I joined some pals in Hemoroids, and yes,
I released my 5th music-disk : Endless Melodies ! But after this, I felt
quite bored with all this, and at this same time, I started to learn the
'system-coding' in order to make utilities..
As I was a musician, I stayed in this domain, and started to code some
rippers, single-converters for weird music-formats like Promizer 1.8a
and NoisePacker 3, these tools were the ancestors of Pro-Wizard :-)
But we'll talk about this later I guess..
Well, being back in a group as a musician, now.... well yes whynot ?
But, maybe I'm not enough self-confident currently to make lots of tunes
in a group you know... and furthermore, I have much less time than before
but who knows ?? Personally, I STILL LOVE MUSIC, but maybe I'm a bit bored
with this 4-voices limitation... Well...
* Hmmmmm, it seems that i'm forgetting an important question, what kind
of hardware do you own???
Currently I own an A4000/030 (snif! no MMU :( nor FPU) with 10MB memory,
and 1.7GB HD (!) Yes it's ESSENTIAL to have disk space when you collect
modules, gfx, demos... and tools ! ;-)
But you have to know that one year ago, I still was on my ooold A500 !
Thus, I began coding Pro-Wizard on a poor 68000, with 20MB HD,
and 4MB memory (1MB Chip) ! It was very long to assemble PW's sourcecode!
Note that currently, the sourcefile size is 525KB ! Pheww...
Well, except this, I have 2 external drives (not very used now), a printer
a sampler, and still a poor 1084S monitor ;)
* Your major release seems to be pro-wizard, did you make some other ones??
Well, not officially ;)
Pro-Wizard is my only 'huge' released tool... but it brings me enough
work like this, I can tell you ! Coding, of course, but also swapping !
(Let's remind, for the non-initiated, that Pro-Wizard is a multi-converter
for weird music-formats like all the Protracker-Clones (ProRunner,
ProPacker, The Player, TrackerPacker, Promizer...) and of course,
Pro-Wizard converts all these formats back to normal Protracker !
Furthermore, it's a kind of ripper, and it provides some nice features
like Memory-Scan via tools like ChipSaver (Hi Cyborg!), sample_texts
editing in order to notice the author's name and more, calculation of
the module duration, XFD Library support (auto decrunches demos),
auto-crunching when saving mods with any XPK Library, and many more....)
In fact, I've made some other tiny tools for my private use, or some
little ones included in Pro-Wizard as Bonus-Programs (ModInfo, Deli-Wizard
IFF File-Ripper...) but now I would like to make a great "ModList" tool !
But this would be very very specific, as everybody would want to implement
HIS way of doing HIS modlist you know... hmm wait and see, anyway..
Otherwise, some time ago, with a pal I wanted to (try to) make a tracker !
But when I saw that almost EVERYBODY had started to make his own one,
I stopped... :)
By the way, I think musicians are not that satisfied with these "new"
trackers out (Symphonie, NewTracker, CyberTracker, Art of Noise...)
Okay, some of them bring very great (new) features, but either they lack
a GOOD system-friendly coding, or they're not very handy to use..
Well, I think that Protracker is still very enjoyed by the musicians !
Fortunately, we managed to patch it to work under AGA Chipset
(but still in PAL).. Of course I'm speaking about the good PT 2.3d !
Not about the CRB releases...
** Why not about the Protrackers from CRB... i thought that every
musicians on Amiga were working on it!!
Hhmmm...maybe I don't know that much about EACH musician in the world
but at least here, in France, we're several to prefer the "old good" 2.x
versions like this v2.3d fixed by Detron & Duff... Even if it's still not
an Intuition Screen ;) But at least, shortcuts like AMIGA+N and AMIGA+M
work with THIS Protracker ! They don't work with those 3.x CRB's :(
I can't remind all bugs & bad things for now but even Doh was not pleased
with these new Protracker releases... Even if they provided some rather
cool changings.
Well, all this is a question of taste ;) Some musicians feel bored with
the LORES mode... some don't care...
But, as my friend Blue Silence told me last week, just make the SAME v2.3
Protracker, with the same interface, etc... but with EIGHT VOICES ! ;)
You know, just an horizontal 'slider' to scroll thru the 8 tracks (like in
FastTracker II on PC if I remember well).
* Why pro-wizard became so famous???
Hum.. maybe because I released it quite early, and maybe I must thank
some great swapper-pals like Steffen/Speedy for spreading my tool like
hell ;-)
But also, I think that Pro-Wizard brought ALL that everybody needed for
ripping his favourite musics in a really short time & user-friendly way !
I always tried to discover new weird formats and to include them at once
in Pro-Wiz... And with the new v2.xx versions, which brought multiselect
in the load requester and especially a file-ripper-concept, I think that
PW was very enjoyed since then... just because you only have to load all
your file-demos in PW, and then it will do all the job, automatically !
This 'automatic' side pleased everybody I guess... ;)
And finally, maybe because I answered (and I still do) every letters that
I received concerning PW and/or ripping problems and so on...
I love writing, I was not known to be a swapper, but for some months,
we could say I AM ! Huhu.. I even wonder when I will manage 2 stop this !?
Nevveerrr ?? ;)
* Pro-wizard is a kind of ripper... but if you combine it with, for
example exotic-ripper, it will be the real best converter-ripper for
the musics on the amiga!!
Yes, Exotic Ripper (Hi Turbo and Marley!) and Pro-Wizard make a great duo.
But since PW v2.0 you can ripp mods in whole files too...
However, in agreement with Exotic Ripper's authors, I've decided that
PW would handle "Protracker Clone Formats" ONLY ! That's logical, since
PW was a "Protracker-Converter", no need to 'ripp-only' these tons of
exotic formats... :)
And honestly, in the latest demos & prods, what mod-formats did you find ?
Quasi always some Protracker Clones like The Player 6.x (Hi Jarno!),
TrackerPacker 3, ProRunner, ProPacker... not too many synthetic formats...
* Pro-wizard is a shareware utility... why did you decide to put it in
shareware and not to sell it?? Do you have lotsa registrations??
Well, to sell it via a commercial firm didn't pleased me at all...
Furthermore, I wanted to make a try in Shareware... I fixed a very low fee
(who could say the contrary ??) and now, 13 months later, I have reached
the 100th registered user !! Hehe... Feel like celebrating ?? :-)
I remember some friends telling me, at the beginning, that I would have
something like 40-50 users... hem hem... Sorry guys ;)
By selling PW, some part of the fee would have gone in the firm's pocket,
whereas with shareware, every user KNOWS that his fee goes entirely to me,
the author, and nobody else ! Then, the author may buy some better
equipment (that's what I did, PW helped me to buy some hardware, memory)
and go on developing the tool, and other ones maybe... That's it !
Here I want to deeply thank every registered user ! Really...
This is great to support shareware AND AMIGA like this..
Even if some silly bastards had the idea of cracking Pro-Wizard... haha
Poor guys !! To crack a Public Domain Utility, which costs 20 DM ! Tss...
Nothing more interesting to do ??
* It seems to have less and less new musik formats on the amiga, at the
moment. How will you do with the soon-expected new amiga and there 8
channels tunes?? And do you really think that pro-wizard will still
have its place??
Hmmm.. thanks God, there aren't so many new formats nowadays !! Huhu...
It would be completely idiot, now, to 'create' a new PTK Clone format !
The best is already released : The Player 6.1a ;) and some others...
But it seems that every (young) coder wants to make his OWN format,
"Yeahh it's MY format ! Mine ! Mine !!" (....) What a feeling !
Moreover, some guys want to create their own one, to make the modules
unrippable ! Hahahaha... let me laugh ! Sorry but ALL will be rippable
one day or another !
I have much more great regard for these guys who make a new format
in order to reduce the cpu time-consuming in the playroutine ! Okay,
that's a good reason, but in order to protect the tunes... IS NOT !
Well, if one day, Protracker is not the most used format anymore,
it won't be that difficult to adapt Pro-Wizard to the new standard...
Just by adding a new "Saving Format" or several ones... ;)
Wait and see what's going on with the long-awaited new Amiga models !!
But I think that the Protracker Format is still very actual, and used..
** A piece of advice to all Disc readers... What is the best musics player,
Eagle Player or Deli Tracker ??
Well, I don't think we can speak about "a best" player !
You know, both tools have their fans ! For my part, I'm a great fan of
DeliTracker-2 (Hi Peter & Frank!), and this almost since the beginning
with versions like 1.21, 1.37 ;-) And furthermore, when DT 2.0 was
released, and that I cooperated with the authors by creating 'Deli-Wizard'
logically, I stayed with DeliTracker !
The latest versions offer some very great features (that I can't detail
here) and I think that the next ones will offer even more !! If Peter &
Frank take my suggestions into account <:-)) Go on guys !!
Talking about EaglePlayer... hhmmm from the beginning, I disliked it just
because they made their player by taking ALL the ideas and concept out of
DeliTracker ! But ok, ok... they implemented lots of new, own ideas...
But I can remember some versions which crashed when you exited ! :(
As soon as you try a tool with such behaviours, you send it to trashcan !
Otherwise, I think that each user has his preferences... and maybe since
you start using DT, you'll go on using the other DT releases, and since
you start using EP, you'll go on using the other EP releases... ;)
For my part, I just LOVE DeliTracker, with this great 'Program' feature,
the useful 'HeadPhone-NotePlayer', the 'ModSave-NotePlayer' the 'Genie'-
concept in general, his high reliability and, above all, the great DELIMIX
routines !!! Whaouhh... just worth including in the next Amiga Generation!
:-)
(But if you prefer EP, we'll stay friends anyway! (Hi The Cyborg / NGC :))
* Back to the scene, when i joined the amiga scene, some famous crews
where ruling in France (as Wild Copper, The Silents, Dragons, Phoenix,
Alcatraz, Impact,...), do you regret them?? and what do you think
about the evolution of the french scene??
Oh yes I looooved this period of the demo-scene !! I had the chance to
live it, so there are great memories... I think that, at this time,
the "demo" was not taken as seriously as nowadays, and this was cooool !
There were tons of productions released at any time, not only for Partys!!
But this has changed... I don't know the real reasons of each one...
Maybe making a GREAT demo has become very very hard and long now,
so, coders take their time to make their demos perfect for partys...
But I also think that the prices offered in some huge partys are too high!
Incontestably, this has forced every coder to make "THE" demo for these
partys and between partys, N O T H I N G ! :((
That's bad that money has 'eaten' the Party concept... but what can we do?
In France, I'm not as involved as before in the demo-scene but I think
the same thing happened... However, some cool crews remain ;)
Ehhh, who wants to talk about 'Friendship' ?? :-)
* What are for you the best french groups and musicians??
BOMB is without any doubt the best crew here, with great 'n active members
(and with their great 'past' in Complex as everybody knows...)
but there are some other good ones, like DRD, NGC, Gods ;), Oxygene,
Les Shadock, Mentasm, etc... But as there are not as many productions as
before, it's a bit hard to have a good judgement...
Concerning the musicians, I think that our NAZZZIONAL Moby stays at the
top ;) But I really like Chrylian's music, especially in his latest
music-disk "Surfing on the Jazz Wave" and also some older modules,
always groovy and fuuunky :) Chrylian deserves to be famous !
Of course, Clawz/Bomb is also very wellknown, and he deserves it,
just listen to his great techno tracks (hehe non Mat' tu n'es pas QUE
un techno-maniak :-)) but also, don't miss his keewwl smooth modules...
Then, I can't forget to talk about the Brosse-a-dents maniaaakk: Doh !
Maybe more involved in chiptunes (yes he loves PSIDs !).
Mushies 'n Soundy / NGC are worth mentioning too, as well as Blue Silence,
GandBox (Chip-Maniak!) and Ibanez, the 'Musette' Mugician :-))
** Can you give us your opinion about some well known musicians of the
actual scene... in a few words, of course!!!
Heatbeat / Cncd / Finland :
Who's this guy ?? I don't know him......... hahaha ! Just Joooooking ;)
Of course, as almost everyone, I guess, I've been fond of his modules
and this, for nearly 5 years now ! What a so personal style! Just Great!
Jogeir / Virtual Dreams / Norway :
Yeah ! A great musician too, much more recent maybe..
He has made quite a lot of adaptations but wonderful ones !
Amazing samples and smooth melodies... One of my favourites.
Tebirod / Les Shadock / France :
Don't know that much about him (although he's French !)
Seems to be a 'Hard-lover' (I even remember this old CONCEPT Tune-Disk
on 3 disks with NHP ;-) You should ask Moby's opinion... hehe
Chromag / Polka Bros / Germany :
Rhhaaaa ! Maybe MY favourite musician at present ! I just love his cool
and smooth tunes for disk-mags... And he seems to be very easy with the
'Polka-style' ;) At the top of the charts soon.
Dreamer / Masque / Poland :
Very delirious (but keewwl!) modules ! Especially the Light & Sound set.
The Polish Scene is getting better n'better without any doubt !
Julius / ?? / Denmark :
A legend (ex-MadFreak) with great tekno tunes for Anarchy...
And lately, a 'too-cool' mod in Psychedelic by VD ! I do enjoy his mods,
but I haven't got enough of them :(
Hollywood / Desire / England :
Very good 'smooth' tunes by Hollywood, I definitely ENJOY this style of
music... Also seems to be a great 'chip-tunes' lover.
I haven't got enough of his tunes, alas...
Lizardking / Razor 1911 / Sweden :
Well, of course he has made lots of modules of the same kind, but this
'kind' sounds good to me... I also bought him his CD at The Party 4,
and I must say that it's a rather good product. ('Clastrophobia' !)
Supernao / Virtual Dreams / Holland :
Great chippies from him ! And a very cool person (at least when I met
him on IRC ;-)) Maybe very tekno-inspired (or gabber? ;) as
this style (of real music) is very developed in Holland...
Spaceman / Spaceballs (?) / England :
Pleeeaaase, as my friend Moby said : come back to Funk & Acid Jazz !!!
And, come back to your previous handle, Nuke rulezzz !! ;)
I enjoy very much listening to my Nuke-directory, except one or two
tekno-like tunes :( Nuke... a Great Legend !
Arpegiator / Outlaws / Belgium :
I've discovered his modules quite recently (1 year ago) and let me say
that I was not disappointed at all... Especially in this great slow :
'Grin Memories' ! Hhhmmmmmm.... 2 cooooool ;)
* A rumour is saying that Dreamdealers (a french legend???) are moving
on PC... what do you think to this attitude from all amiga sceners to
move on PC??
I think this 'may' be comprehensible since C= breakdown...
Someones didn't believe in the Amiga's chances to reach the top again,
and some musicians have been attracted by the 32 voices GUS card on PC,
etc, etc... But hmmm... why 'moving' on PC ?? They could make demos on
both machines ! Just look at Hemoroids.. they have a PC section, even a
ST section if this is still up to date... (?)
For my part, I will never give up the Amiga System ! It's tooo lovely !!
What could I do with a PC ??? So boring... always making music ??
Always raytracing ? Coding with the faaaast processors ?? No thanks..
I need a great OS ! And Amiga has one ! Even PC guys admit that their OS
is bloody like hell ;)
I'm looking forward to seeing the new Amiga Generation !! Oh yessss...
Let's wait (again) and HOPE !
* What is your best oldest scene remind??
Hhmmm... let's take the day when I met Moby for the first time ! Haha..
With his looooong hair of Hard freak :)) It was at the Cyclone Party I
in August 1990 if I remember well.. A coool party, just for fun !
In fact, it's always a great moment when you meet a friend for the first
time, while you've been in contact with him for months and months !
Via mail, phone or minitel... Lately, same thing happened when I
went to The Party 4, I met some foreign contacts'n friends (Hi Speedy,
Hille and N.N!) there, it was even harder, due to English speaking :-)
That's what I prefer in Partying... to meet friends and have fun !
* If you can make your dreaming crew, on Amiga, who will you take with you?
Hehe... what a question ! In France you mean ? Let's take it fast :
Moby+Chrylian, Gengis+Clawz, Ra+Suny, BigM+Vodka !
Whaouhh, only one coder ! :) Good luck Gengis ! Have to be ACTIVE ;)
* A swedish dude, called as you Gryzor, made a quite bad virus...
it's a quite shame attitude... what do you think about virus??
and did you discover some trojan pro-wizard (fake ones!!) untill now??
Well, this is a very bloody story ! One day, I was chating on IRC,
and one guy asked me "Hey are you the fucking asshole making those
Trojan Virus craps ??" Gosh!? What's that again ?? I told him
that I had never made any virus of my life, I was French and so on...
Then he apologized to me, and told me that a swedish 'Gryzor' was making
some dirty virus on Amiga.... !! Shiiit !
Some times later, I read some files from some SHI members, hating this
swedish Gryzor etc... pheww, this is NOT me ! ;)
Besides, it appears that this guy didn't even know me when he chose his
handle, so he didn't make all this to bother me I guess...
Furthermore, I have not seen any faked Pro-Wizard, fortunately !
But, this could be possible yes, as virus-makers take the most used tools
to put their virus in :( Poor guys ! Isn't it LAME ?
Well, I can't understand why Virus are back NOW !!? We've been quiet for
2 or 3 years, thanks to Kickstart 2.0+ (no more disk-validator problems)
and now, all this comes back !? Fuck these guys !
And these new viruses are even more dangerous than the old bootblock ones.
Now, you can simply launch a "Gathering-95-Invitation" file, and ooohhhh
what's happening ??? Why is my hard-drive making "tac tac tac tac" ???...
Yes, a HD formater in some well-spread files !! That's the worst thing !!
It didn't happen to me, but to one of my friends... but I let you imagine
how you may feel when this happens !! :(
Pffff... what a story... Well, be prudent then ! Especially if you swap
very much ! And register a Virus Killer ;)
But I repete, I have NOTHING to do with this swedish idiot! That's clear!
* And what about you???? Yes, YOU.... how you fill your spare time,
what are you studying, etc, etc...
I'm not studying anymore... after army I started to work on PC (arggl!)
as it was planned to be, boring computerized firm management and so on..
But I was not very fond of THIS ! ;)
Now, I even plan to come back to studies, maybe... or work in a totally
different domain than computer-science ! But I also have some artistic
views (music ?) :) Oooh yes, I wisshhh...
Otherwise, I love playing billard (French Billard!), Bowling, Chess..
I'm ALWAYS listening to some music !! All the time.. very often Amiga
modules besides ! Yes... but also some great CDs of Funk, Acid-Jazz,
Ambient & Trance (not Hardcore Tekno!) and definitely NOT Hard Rock ! ;)
I feel my spare time with trying to get back my girlie :-))
More seriously, I must admit that I spend a lot of time on the Amiga,
that's even completely crazy when we think about it ! ;)
But it's a passion !
* If you can remake your life... will you make the same one, with so
much time on the amiga scene??
He He ! That's THE question ! Hard to answer... Sometimes I wonder why
I have spent so much time in front of a monitor, typing on a keyboard...
But what would have I done otherwise ??
What do 'normal' people do ?? hahah....
But, sincerely, there were so many good times in this 'next world' that
I would probably make the same choice, yes.
(Unless I live in the Caribbean !! :-))
* What are the 3 things that you will take with you if you are alone
on a Pacific island???
Who said "My Amiga" ??? ;-)) Impossible : My Amiga System is made of
more than 3 things !
I would take a condom (!) because one can never remain alone like this
for so long... Someone would finally arrive on the same island (and NO,
I don't think about some monkeys eehhh !? :))
Second of all, a mirror (not by Andromeda, no...) so I could make signs
to anyone with the sun, and also could always have an idea of how do I
look like ;)
And finally, a Zitronen can ! This so gooooood limonade...... (private
and french joke, refering to the Highly Deliriouuss Garden Partysssss !!)
I could either sell it to some indigenous wandering around, and that would
be the first step to a great fortune, or use it as a weapon against the
nasty ones, yes Zitronen may be very very dangerous, when cleverly used :)
** Since this issue of Disc, you will have your own rubric in this diskmag.
Why have you taken only now the decision to write in a scene mag?
Ehh! Just because I have never been asked for !! :) So, Thank YOU !
(And maybe I thought that I didn't REALLY belong to the scene ..??..?.?.)
In fact, I could have begun writing articles some months ago, in a French
mag (paper mag!) called 'Opus Magazine' (always about 'how to ripp this
wonderful tune from this wonderful demo' ;) But the time passed,
and we forgot the point...
Now, with a whole rubric in DISC, I think it will be more 'serious' and
as it's a well-spread disk-mag, I hope that my experience will help a lot
of guys who often try to ripp some tunes, but fail :(
And, as some of these guys, then, write and ask me how to ripp, how to
extract some crunched files and so on, I think this rubric will be very
useful for them... and this may even reduce my swapping activities ? :)
(Am I dreeeaaaming ??)
** Can you tell us what subjects you will talk about in your rubric?
Well, you can guess that all will more or less focus on Pro-Wizard's job.
But here I want to point out an important thing :
If I (and lots of people do) ripp modules, it's not in order
to re-use them, to modify them, to steal whatever you think,
but it's just because I *LOVE* Amiga Modules, and I collect
them with great care ! (I have more than 10.000 at the moment).
I sort all mods by Authors, or by Groups, or by Kinds...
And I do my best to mention as many informations as possible
about the tune, the composer, the composing-date, the demo
which the tune comes from, the Party where it's been presented..
The ones who have my ModList know what I'm talking about...
So don't come and tell me that I'm a "dirty ripper" !
The most important thing is : >> R-E-S-P-E-C-T << of the composers.
Well, as I said above, I'll explain how to get hard-rippable mods,
even with full and detailed procedure for a particular demo !
What tools to use... in order to ripp mods out of a NON-DOS disk..
The problem of tunes with separated samples...
The way to find and extract crunched data out of a huge file, etc, etc..
And I hope that DISC readers will send some questions, problems, so that
everyone will take advantage of the answers.
But, as I'm also a musician, and as I loooove modules, we could talk about
this topic too ! Especially one thing that I HATE : getting mods without
their REAL TITLE !! :( It's so bad ! So, if some of the readers know
the real names of some popular modules, they could tell this to me and
I'd write all this in the next issue... Furthermore, it's very important
for me to know the real name and country of some popular composers too !
I've been mentioning this in my ModList for some years, and there still
remains some very wellknown musicians whose name is unknown, alas...
I do respect the musicians (and everybody should) so this matters to me !
** And the final question, when the next version of Pro-Wizard will be
released?? and what are the new things that we can expect to discover
in the next Pro-Wizard??
Well, now that time has passed so fast, I think that the next version
will be available and released at The Saturne Party 3 (which will be hold
on 1-2-3 of September '95 near Paris, but the Saturne Crew has not stated
the real place yet (at least, from the latest news I had from them)).
The latest version is v2.16 dated 22-Feb-95 and since then, I've been so
snowed under with swapping (really!) that I couldn't make any new version
except fixing the easiest bugs ;)
Now, it's sad to say that I'm going to spend full July in coding this new
version <:-)) At least, if I stop to answer all my contacts !! I must..
In this new version, there should be 2 or 3 'new' formats, a great change
in the Prefs handling (no more items in the menus but all Prefs grouped
together in a big Prefs-Window, with some more user-editable settings,
like some registered users asked me for ;-) )
Also, a way to launch Pro-Wizard with some arguments ! Think about a nice
"Pro-Wiz" button in DOpus ! So useful...
And maybe a brand new feature concerning the detection of crunched data
in a file... maybe a 'Read Disk' function too.
Well, it becomes harder and harder to find something to add in fact...
All is so automatic yet ! ;-)
** If you have some special comments to do, to say, to write... let's
go... fill as you want!
Blahh...Blahh...Blahh...Blahh...Blahh...Blahh...Blahh...Blahh...Blahh...
(Yes, I enjoy PolkaBros' demos <:-))
And, speaking about demos, I would like to point out that more and more
demos, mags and other productions are coded in a system-friendly way !
I think it's very important, now that a great majority of users have a
hard-disk and launch demos from the workbench, that demos respect the
system, free all the allocated memory, and come back properly to the
workbench when exiting !!
And I must say that I've been pleasantly surprised, lately, to see lots
of prods coded in this way ! That's the way to go, guys ! Keep on...
Think HD-Install, Think System !
...and your demos will be even more appreciated and well-spread...
(And a little "plus" would be to enable an "Anytime Exit" in the demo,
like in most of PolkaBros & VD's demos ! <-- Great Job !)
I'll achieve with warm greetings to all my friends, french & foreigners,
all the registered users of Pro-Wizard (and even the others) who wrote me
and supported my -hard- work, thank you ! To all the 'french-minitel' pals
whom I chat with during hours n'hours in the night... and also to all the
talented musicians who make us flyyyyyy with their wonderful melodies...
(-: I'll remember "The Amiga Modules" during all my life ! :-)
** Thanx for answering to this not-so-quite-boring interview, Gryzor.
It was my great pleasure !
See you soon all...
