Dresden - August-27 1813
#normal
Player two, you are tzar Alexander and the Allied main Army is under your command.
On the 19 August you have advanced from your Bohemian bases and into Saxony, planning to capture Dresden
(the main French supply center) whilst Napoleon was busy operating against Blucher in Silesia. Unfortunately
it seems that Napoleon has received word of this and rushed to support the Dresden garrison (commanded by St Cyr)
with elements of his main army (including the Imperial Guard). On the 26th you have assaulted Dresden, and
although some headway has been made casualties have been high and French resistance heavy. It has becomen clear
that not only was Napoleon present but also that the French were receiving continual reinforcements. Continual
rain and the heavy mud has not helped you. Consequently the attack has been broken off but you have decided to
to risk a second day of battle.
During the night further French reinforcements have arrived and it has continued to rain. Most of the Allied troops
spent a miserable night in the wet whilst the bulk of their enemies found shelter in Dresden. Meanwhile, to the east
Vandamme has been threatening to move against your right and rear. Wurttemberg has held him at bay - just - and he
had to be sent reinforcements from your main Allied force at Dresden.
You still have the opportunity of inflicting a decisive defeat on the enemy: The capture of Dresden would be a major
blow that would unhinge the entire French position in Saxony. But, as the forces are now comparable, you should also
think first to hold your lines. Your position is actually suspect with dangerously exposed flanks.
