COMMENT:An analysis of modern science in a Marxist context. The authors approach the question by way of asking to what extent the philosophical writings of mostly F. Engels stood the test of time. They claim that the important discoveries of 20th century science provide satisfactory confirmation. Many ideas, such as chaos and complexity, supposedly fit the 150 year-old theories of dialectical materialism. Yet science seems to lend credence to resurgent mystical obscurantism; the authors discuss the reasons. An interesting look at science and pseudoscience in a Marxist framework itself often suspected of irrationality.
