COMMENT:A critical examination of the mythology and methodology of science. The author reviews how science claims to work and compares that with data on how it does work. The approach is empirical where possible, with the goal of filling in our understanding of science and the scientific method. Topics included are: graduate training, reward systems, passions, rationality, and the publication process. Mahoney is known for his studies of bias in peer-review and the problem solving strategies of scientists.
