COMMENT:An account of Blackmore's experiences in research in many aspects of parapsychology, which show a gradual disillusionment with the notion of "psi." While this is a personal story, centered on her travails while obtaining a Ph.D., and her own inability to find psi, either in controlled experimental settings when she was the investigator, or some "field" cases or unusual experiences like OBE's, the book also provides a fascinating look at the culture of parapsychology in general. Her reasons for a move to a open-minded skepticism and a commitment to studying experiences often called "paranormal" without being beholden to "psi" are worth being aware of, for any observer of psychic claims and counter-claims.
