Come one, come all to the San Jose State Install Fest on Thursday, May 6th
from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. I know, I know, it's not a Friday, but after
haggling with Student Life ( along with the Ministry of Peace and the Ministry
of Truth) we decided to take what we can get. I was also hoping for something
later in the day, as I know this schedule makes it difficult for 90% of the
people on this list to attend, but alas that didn't happen either.
Anyway, I would be tremendously pleased if anyone from this list chooses to
attend. Also, on the flyers to be distributed around campus, I would like to
put SVLUG as a sponsor. If any other companies are interested in sending
people, I would put your logo as well (free advertising rules).
My hope is that this marks the founding of a San Jose State LUG, so any and
all input about how to organize this event is welcome.
Thanks in advance for your support,
John Mark Walker

First of all, the location will be in the Student Union, although I
cannot recall the room number at the moment - I'll get that tomorrow
when I'm on campus.
Generally, parking is available on the streets around campus. Forget
about the campus garages - they're all full. However, there is a Park &
Ride lot on 7th and Alma, where theoretically speaking, you can park for
$1, although I've never actually paid - and never been ticketed. A
shuttle comes by every 15 minutes to take you to the campus.
There is ample public transportation. From the Diridon Caltrain station
(downtown San Jose) you can take DASH, a free shuttle available to
everyone that lands you right in front of the campus. VTA routes 22,
63, and 64 also come to mind.
Please do refer anyone to my e-mail address. I would love to hear from
anyone who wishes to help in whatever capacity.

Subject: [svlug] SJSU Installfest Update
Date: Fri, 23 Apr 1999 11:08:12 -0700
X-Mailer: KMail [version 1.0.17]
Hi all,
A reminder that our InstallFest is coming up: Thursday, May 6, 9 am to 2 pm.
It will be held on the 3rd floor of the Student Union in the Council Chambers.
Don't worry; we'll have signs posted in the Union.
I appreciate the offers from some of you regarding Web space. I expect to have
a page up this weekend.
We do have a few requests:
1. Where can we get Linux distibutions to pass out? Would any of you be
willing to donate some? I know there are some Red Hat, VA Research and PHT
employees on this list.
2. Most importantly, we need expertise. If you are an X guru, you are
particularly needed. Since it is a Thursday, I know most of you will not be
able to make it (work sucks), but we sincerely appreciate anyone who can.
Thanks for all the help!
-John Mark Walker
RM adds: SJSU is at E. San Carlos Street and S. 7th Street in
downtown San Jose, just north of the S. 7th Street offramp
from I-280.
It is served by VTA routes 72, 300, 503, and all routes that
terminate in the San Jose Transit Mall, three blocks away.
