  17. About the talk:
  18. The Trillian Project was formed in early 1999 to port the Linux operating
  19. system to the IA-64 architecture. The project currently includes Caldera,
  20. CERN, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Red Hat (Cygnus), SGI, SuSE, TurboLinux
  21. and VA Linux Systems, and represents the first major effort by the server
  22. and workstation industry to support an Open Source project of this depth
  23. and scale.

  25. On February 2nd, the Trillian project released the IA-64 Linux source code
  26. to the open source community (available at www.kernel.org ). Today, two
  27. of the lead engineers from the Trillian project will discuss the internals
  28. of IA-64 Linux and they will detail how Linux will take advantage of the
  29. new features of the IA-64 architecture.

  31. About the speaker: David is a member of the technical staff at HP Labs
  32. where he is working on Internet and Linux related projects. His research
  33. interests are in high-performance Internet systems, operating systems,
  34. and computer architecture. He holds a professional degree as an Electronics
  35. Engineer, an HTL Diploma (BSc degree) in Computer Science from HTL
  36. Brugg-Windisch, Switzerland and M.Sc.. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science
  37. from University of Arizona. He is a member of ACM, IEEE Computer Society,
  38. and USENIX.

  40. In his former life at the University of Arizona, David was one of the
  41. primary contributors to making Linux 64-bit clean and getting it to work
  42. on the Alpha platform. For the two years or so, he has been spearheading
  43. the effort at HP Labs to bring Linux to the forthcoming IA-64 platform.

  45. Walt Drummond is the Director of Software Engineering at VA Linux Systems.
  46. Walt leads the IA-64 Linux development effort at VA, concentrating on the
  47. kernel and platform implementation details. Prior to joining VA he was
  48. part of the Network Engineering group at SGI. Walt received his degree
  49. from Rutgers Universtiy where he spent time researching linux-based clusters
  50. and appliance-style servers.
