††Shorthand is a way of writing very quickly by using special signs. In 1837 Britain's Isaac Pitman invented shorthand writing. This consists of a series of signs which can be used instead of whole words or groups of letters. It takes less time and effort to write the words down and with practice shorthand can be used to reproduce words as fast as they are spoken.
