††Radiotherapy is a method of treating cancer. It uses radiation waves from X-ray machines or radioactive materials to kill cancer cells, reducing the cancer in size or removing it altogether. One of the worst side-effects is inflammation of the skin. Radiotherapy dates back to the early work on radio isotopes by Marie and Pierre Curie in the closing years of the 19th century. Then radioactive isotopes were used to treat the malignant tumours of cancer.
