††Ketchup is a thick spicy sauce, usually made from tomatoes.
In 1876 Henry Heinz first produced tomato ketchup. The Chinese had used a sauce called 'ke-tsaip' for years and this may well have influenced the choice of name and ingredients for the new Heinz sauce.
