††Homo erectus was a stage in the evolution of the present day human species (Homo sapiens). Homo erectus appeared about 1.5 to 2 million years ago. They had much larger brains and were probably the first people to use fire. They were also the first of our human ancestors to move out of Africa. Their remains have been found as far afield as China, Spain and Britain. Homo erectus made primitive clothes and shelters to help them adapt to the change in climate in their new surroundings.
