††††Coffee beans were probably first turned into a drink by the Ethiopians in the early part of the 15th century. Decaffeinated coffee was invented by Ludwig Roselius in 1903. A form of instant coffee appeared in 1901, but the first successful version was not marketed until 1938. It was made by NestlÈ. Today the world's largest producers of coffee beans are Brazil, Columbia and the Ivory Coast. The coffee beans are fermented and then dried in the sun, before being exported.
