Karl Benz made a three-wheeled car in 1885. Four years later, with Wilhelm Maybach, he produced a four-wheeled version with an internal combustion engine, which is regarded as the first modern car. Henry Ford made his first car in the United States in 1896, but motoring did not become widely accessible until 1925 when, as a result of increased mechanisation and mass production, Ford was able to reduce his prices to $290 in the United States (about £163 to £180 in Britain).
