††††A battery is a device that produces and stores an electric current. A battery can consist of one electric cell, or a set of cells connected together.
The first electric battery was made in 1800 by an Italian count called Alessandro Volta. Each cell of Volta's battery had a copper disc and a zinc disc separated by a piece of cloth soaked in salt solution. When the pairs of metal discs were connected by wires, an electric current flowed.
