Isambard Kingdom Brunel was one of the most important engineers of his time. He was responsible for the building of the Great Western Railway from London to Bristol and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. In 1833 he was appointed Chief Engineer to the Great Western Railway. Following the construction of the Great Western Railway he designed and built the three largest ships of the time: the 'Great Britain', the 'Great Western' and the 'Great Eastern'.
