Karl Benz was born in 1844 in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 1879 he constructed a two-stroke engine and founded his first factory. Four years later he founded his second factory and in 1885 he built a car with three wheels. Four years after this, he produced a four-wheeled car with an internal combustion engine, which is seen as the first modern car. In 1926, three years before he died, he merged his company with the Daimler Motor Company.
