  3. SIMPLE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF SOFTWARE

  7. 1) Copy the files to a subdirectory and run VSAMPLE
  8. either from the command line or in a DOS window.
  9. _____________________________________________________

  11. 2) After reading and playing with the demo package, and making a
  12. backup somewhere for your later use (and redistribution, please!) 
  13. print the manuals, then copy the files:
  14.  {
  15.  VMENUBLD.EXE
  16.  VFPROC.EXE
  17.  VDISPLAY.EXE or VAREAD.EXE
  18.  Your text files
  19.  }
  20.  to a new subdirectory, where you will be working.

  23. 3) Run VMENUBLD and create your menus. Save with F10 as you go along
  24. and SAVE ON EXIT.

  27. 4) You may reload your menu for correction using RELOAD ORIGINAL CFG.

  30. 5) Program your menus by pressing F7 on each menu line in EDIT 
  31. SUBSCREENS AND COMMAND LINE CALLS. Type, for example,
  32. VDISPLAY MYFILE.TXT -A (for text files) or
  33. VDISPLAY MYFILE.CMO    (if you have processed or plan to process the
  34. files.)

  37. 6) If you plan to process the files, run VFPROC and select your files
  38. to process from its menu, or run it from the command line:
  39. VFPROC *.TXT
  40. or
  41. VFPROC MYFILE.TXT
  42. which processes a file creating a new, processed copy MYFILE.CMO

  45. 7) Test your menu and reload/fine tune/resave.
  46.   -Test within VMENUBLD
  47.   -Test using VMENU.EXE (the distributable .exe file) by typing
  48. VMENU
  49. at the command line or running it from WINDOWS (Mouse driver has
  50. to be loaded in your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT before WINDOWS is
  51. loaded - in
  52. CONFIG.SYS include a line DEVICE=MOUSE.SYS
  53. if you are using a system mouse driver, or in
  54. AUTOEXEC.BAT include a line MOUSE
  55. to run MOUSE.COM, depending on which you have for a mouse driver.)

  58. 8)Register!
  59.   Use varead or vdisplay to print register.txt, or type at the command
  60. line,
  61.   PRINT REGISTER.TXT
  62.   or
  63.   TYPE REGISTER.TXT>PRN
  64. to print a registration form! Don't forget your cheque <g>...
  65.   When you get your registration number
  66. ...Type your registration number into VMENUBLD after reloading
  67. your CFG file, and SAVE ON EXIT.

  72. 9) Copy to a disc for distribution or "ZIP" all the required files
  73. together:
  74.  -your *.CMO files (And/ or *.TXT files if applicable - you will need
  75. at least two files, a README.TXT and a FILE_ID.DIZ)
  76.  -VMENU.EXE - to run your menu
  77.  -CFG.MNN - to configure VMENU
  78.  -VDISPLAY.EXE (or VAREAD.EXE if you prefer)
  79.  -any shell executables, such as PICTURE.EXE, which you have programmed
  80. in. (an advanced topic described in the manuals.
  81.  DON'T INCLUDE YOUR REG.DAT FILE!!!!! (Generated when you register, and
  82. needed to be present until everything is built.)

  85. 10) Test your package by typing VMENU at the prompt.
