Ted Swirsky TS-KIDS Version 1.0c
This is an entertaining VGA package for younger children. All
the kids I've seen love to play with the computer (like their
parents do) and they very much enjoy controlling the computer to
make shapes, colors and sounds.
This program is very colorful, fun and easy to use with just a
few minutes help from an older person.
There are two drawing area choices: one which uses the entire
screen and one where the screen is divided into four individual
drawing areas. Switch between the two choices with the F8 key.
When in four screen mode, use the arrow keys to select a drawing
area. Switching to a new area stops whatever action is going on.
There are two automation choices: manual (OneStep) and
automatic. When in manual mode, one shape is drawn for each
press of a key. When in automatic mode, pressing a key one time
will cause the same figure to appear (in different colors and
sizes in different locations, just as in manual mode) until a
different key is pressed or the drawing area changed or the F10
(pause) key pressed. The speed at which the figures appear can
be adjusted with the grey + and - keys... + for faster and - for
slower. Switch between OneStep and automatic mode with the F9
key.
The drawing area(s) can be cleared in different ways and using
different colors. There are also ways to change existing colors
without changing anything already existing on the screen. The
colors can be reset back to the default choice.
Many very pretty and interesting effects can be achieved. Set
the large drawing area and create some snowflakes with the 'G'
key. Then use F3 to pick a background with a pretty color.
Toggle on the automatic mode with the F9 key if it is not already
on and press F4 to remap all colors. Use the + and - keys to
change the speed. OR Fill the screen with filled in hearts,
circles, squares and diamonds (toggle Fill with the '.' (period)
key.) Then, again, use F4 on automatic to make the colors
change.
Functions
ESC: End the program
+ : Increase speed (see F9 auto/onestep mode)
- : Decrease speed (see F9 auto/onestep mode)
. : Toggle Fill mode
Certain shapes such as circles, squares, hearts, etc. may
be filled in (solid) or hollow (outline only). Use the '.'
to switch back and forth. This may be done at any time.
Shift F1: Clear entire screen (even all four areas) to black
and stop action.
Shift F2: Toggle Help mode. When displaying the one large
drawing area, two lines of help text will be
displayed (or removed from) under the drawing area
showing the functions of the function keys. Note:
This will reduce the size of the drawing area by two
lines.
Shift F3: Display Help. Display the help screen which is
displayed upon the start of the program. Note: When
a key is pressed to end the display, the original
drawing area is presented CLEARED with the original
colors reset.
F1: Clear current drawing area to black. (see F3)
F2: Clear current area with a color.
The colors cycle through all existing colors.
F3: Change all black areas to a new color.
All areas which are normally black (mostly backgrounds)
will be changed to a new color. This does not erase or
change ANYTHING except the black color. Can reset back
to original default colors with F5.
F4: Remap Colors
All colors except black will be randomly remapped to
different colors. For example, everything green will
change to pink or all red will change to yellow. This
does not erase or change ANYTHING except the color. Can
reset back to original colors with F5.
F5: Reset all colors to their normal default startup values.
This does not erase or change ANYTHING except the
colors.
F7: Toggle sounds
Random sounds will play in auto mode.
F8: Toggle between one large and four small drawing areas.
Each press of this key will clear everything and switch
between one large and four smaller, individually
controlled drawing areas.

F9: OneStep/Auto toggle switch
Normally, things appear one time when a key is pressed.
The F9 key will cause most shapes and functions to
repeat. Press F9 again to go back to one step mode.
Use + and - to change speed. Using arrow keys to change
an area as well as some other functions will stop things
from appearing, but the auto mode will still be set
until changed.
F10: Pause
Stop action.
1 : Play song "I Love You" from the Barney Show.
2 : Play song "I Know You" from Sleeping Beauty
0 : Stop Music.
The music will stop after playing out the currently stored
notes.

This program is distributed as SHAREWARE. If your child uses
it, I would appreciate any donation you would care to send. I
have spent a lot of time and effort and will no doubt be spending
more in the future as I enhance and upgrade it.
A donation of $10 or more and a self addressed postage paid
mailer with a diskette will get you the latest version of the
program and how to start the program in quick mode (no wait for
the initialization).
For $15 (and the diskette and mailer), I will customize the
(N)ame function to display the names of up to two children. Add
$2.00 for each additional name.

enhancements, fixes and any comments you would care to make about
this program.
