RIP MODE ON-LINE INSTRUCTIONS
If your sysop has not registered SUMMATION! and you enjoy the
game, please urge him to do so.
For RIP mode I recommend you have at least a 2400 baud modem and
download the "SUM78PLR.ZIP" file from this BBS if your sysop has
made it available. Place the "$$SUM1$$.RIP file in your RIP
terminals ICONS directory and it will then be detected and read
from disk when needed.
DESCRIPTION:
Summation is a strategy game where you must use careful
selection and addition to outscore your computer or human opponent.
THE GAME SCREEN BUTTONS:
'Instructions' - This text.
'New Game' - Start a new game. (Computer opponents only)
'Redraw Screen' - Redraws the screen.
'Select Opponent' - Select a on-line player or computer opponent.
'Quit' - Quit SUMMATION! and drop back to the BBS.
HOW TO PLAY:
By default the program randomly selects a computer opponent.
To start a new game with this opponent click the 'New Game' button
or press the 'N' key. The game will then ask if you wish to go first
and if you will be making your selections from rows (play columns by
selecting 'No' at the second window). After you have answered these
questions the randomly selected row (or column) will be highlighted
in either BLUE (you) or RED (your opponent). Make your selections
from the BLUE highlighed squares by clicking them with the mouse.
Once you have made your selection the square you selected will
clear and the number in it will be added to your score. The
objective is to outscore your opponent. The game ends when all of
the squares are cleared or when you or your opponent cannot make
a selection (the row or column is empty).
SELECTING ANOTHER OPPONENT:
To select a new opponent click the 'Select Opponent' button or
press the 'S' key. If there are other players on-line you will be
asked if you want to select from them. A list of computer or on-line
players will then be displayed. Select one by clicking the name or
pressing the highlighted letter. If you are selecting an on-line
player a window with the message "Requesting:" will be displayed.
The computer will continue to poll that player for 60 seconds. If
the selected player is already in a game or does not wish to play
the message "Player declined request." will be displayed explaining
this. If the selected player chooses to play with you they will be
asked if they want to go first and if they will be playing in rows
or columns. When this is done the screen is cleared and the game
starts. Selecting a computer opponent starts the game as if you
selected the "New Game" option from the main screen.
When playing against another player you can send a short
message with your move by clicking the 'Message' button BEFORE making
your selection. "Enter Message:" will be displayed in a window. After
typing the message press ENTER and the message will be sent with your
selection.
