Attacking
An attacker's chance of hitting their
target is determined by the appropriate
weapon skill. It is modified by the
difficulty factor of the character's
attack style.
If the attack succeeds, the opponent may
attempt to dodge (based on their
Defense), block the blow (with a
shield), or parry the blow (with fencing
weapons).
If the defense fails, the attacker has
done some damage. However, damage is
reduced by the opponent's Armor, and
thus they may be unharmed. Damage is
also affected by strength loss and the
attack style.
***
103
A: Change a Character's Attack Style
This command does not take a move.
All characters begin combat at the
default, a normal attack.
Changing to a killing attack, a reckless
swing, means that the character's
Defense is severly reduced, but if they
should hit their opponent, they will do
more damage. You cannot aim at specific
body parts with a killing attack.
Or a body part may be specified. Only
impaling weapons are effective against
the brain or vital organs. Only cutting
weapons increase damage to the neck.
As a general rule, the more difficult
the target, the more possible damage.
***
104
B: Bandage your wounds
This command ends the character''s turn.
You must be carrying bandages in order
to try and heal your wounds. Your
Medicine skill determines if you are
successful and how much damage you
heal. Bleeding is usually pretty
easy to stop.
***
105
F: Fire a ranged weapon
This command ends the character's turn.

you enter targeting mode and must
select the opponent you wish to attack.
If the weapon is unloaded, this command
automatically loads the weapon and ends
the turn.
***
106
G: Stand guard, waiting to attack
This common maneuver ends a character's
turn, but if an opponent should step
next to them, the character, having
patiently waited for the right moment
to strike, attacks.
The character's picture on the screen
changes to their swinging position,
to remind you that they are on guard.
If you see a monster on guard, it is not
a good idea to step next to it...

If the spell fails, the attempt costs
one move. If it succeeds, the caster's
turn is over.
***
109

The character may not be adjacent to
any hostile creatures in order to
rest. This command ends the character's
turn. From 1 to 6 points of Strength
are regained.

and injuries of the entire party.

weapon at.

of combat.
***

around in formation or for rushing
through a narrow area.
***
113
