Dave,
Did you settle on the optimum design? Intresting that I was
just going to the creek to get some sand for the same purpose
when I decided to read a few messages first.
I am using a mixture of ground pine bark that has been aged
and ph corrected. This stuff is available in my area for
$ 1.50 per bag. Each bag is 2 cuft. They even have 2 rows
of holes for drainage.
Typically they are good for 3 years. Mine are nearing the 2
year mark. Some are now retaining too much moisture for
proper oxygen distribution. I have to mix about 10 to 20
percent sand to regain sufficient drainage.
This time of year, I plant carrots, onions, cabbage, broccli,
and radishes. I have about 60 bags with a common feeding system.
Do you have any "HOME BREW" nutrient mixes?
Wayne
