  1. GedEdit and its associated files are provided on a 'USE AT YOUR OWN RISK'
  2. basis.  There are no warranties, expressed or implied, that GedEdit or
  3. any other file/program on the GedEdit shareware diskette or in the download
  4. archive will perform any particular function or suit any specific purpose.

  6. This is the shareware version of GedEdit - The GedCom File Editor with
  7. Reports. The Registered version comes with a printed, fully illustrated
  8. manual containing examples of all GedEdit functions and features plus
  9. helpfull tips.

  11. Registration details are displayed when you exit GedEdit.
  12.  
  13. For an index to the files on this diskette or downloaded archive, display
  14. the file "CONTENTS.DOC".
  15.  
  16. This program creates a disk work environment for each .GED file being
  17. edited. In order to use GedEdit you must have a minimum of 300K of
  18. RAM and free diskspace on the order of 6 times .GED filesize for the
  19. work environment.

  21. Each .GED disk work environment consists of a:
  22.                  x.WRK file
  23.                  x.IDX file
  24.                  x.FDX file
  25. where 'x' represents the GedCom filename being edited.
  26.  
  27. Work environments are created the 'first' time you ask GedEdit to load a
  28. 'new' .GED file and exist until such time as the .GED file being edited
  29. is either saved to disk or the edit session is aborted. This means that
  30. work done today can be resumed tommorrow, next week, next month or next
  31. year and everything will be just as you left it. The original .GED file
  32. remains untouched until such time as you tell GedEdit to overwrite it
  33. via the 'Save' function.

  35. When you save or abort an edit session the disk work environment created
  36. for the edit session is returned to the operating system. The next time
  37. you load the GedCom will be a 'first' load. Loading, saving and
  38. re-loading are common practices in fixing bad GedComs, stripping out
  39. garbage, re-indexing after adding or deleting structures, generally any
  40. time you want to start with a fresh slate.

  42. WARNING. GedEdit will happily continue to gobble up disk space every
  43. time you load a new .GED file. Remember to abort or save the edit
  44. session when you are finished with it.

  46. If you run into trouble, check the on-line help. If you're still in
  47. trouble, re-read the distribution diskette or .ZIP file documentation.
  48. If you're STILL in trouble, register and get the fully illustrated
  49. printed manual with step-by-step examples  of all GedEdit functions
  50. using 'real' .GED files. Of course, you also get the latest registered
  51. version of GedEdit with the manual.

  53. This is GedEdit's maiden appearance and as such users who register now are
  54. not just Registered Users, they are CHARTER Registered Users. Charter Users
  55. will always get the best possible deal on upgrades and new releases, and
  56. Charter Users have a powerfull voice in determining what new GedEdit features
  57. and functions will appear in future versions. Register soon.
