  3.      By default AA (AutoAnswer) is OFF (ATS0=0). To turn AA on, ATS0=1.  To
  4. set and SAVE,  ATS0=1&W.  If it has 'stuck' in AA then ATS0=0&W will  reset
  5. to  not answer, and save it. For a PC usually AT&C1&D2 should also be  set.
  6. For a MAC,  &C0 or &C1 seems OK, but for AA it must be &D0 (not &D2).

  8.      Most  software sends ATA to the modem to tell it to answer,  when  the
  9. modem sends 'RING' to the software. If the software does this, then  ATS0=0
  10. is correct.

  12.      When  the AA LED is off (AutoAnswer off), it should blink ON for  each
  13. ring, then type ATA (for manual answer) and the modem will answer. When the
  14. LED is ON (AutoAnswer ON), it should blink OFF for each ring, then it  will
  15. answer on the set number of rings.

  17.                           FAX AutoAnswer
  18.  
  19.      Do NOT put any data software in Host mode or the software or modem  in
  20. AA  (autoanswer) mode. The FAX software tells the modem to answer when  the
  21. modem  sends  RING to the computer. You only have to have  the  fax  module
  22. loaded to receive the fax.  The AA led should be OFF, and blink ON when the
  23. phone rings.

  25.      If  you  have it set and it doesn't answer, then try  going  into  any
  26. terminal  mode  (data  software) and see if the modem prints  RING  to  the
  27. screen  when the phone rings. If not, there may be too many devices on  the
  28. line, or a conflict preventing the message from getting to the 'screen'.

  30.      Fax driver (see software manual) must be loaded to recv a fax. You can
  31. tell most software to manually answer the fax when you hear the 'beeps'  on
  32. the phone via a hot-key.  >>> Make SURE you don't have both Dos and Windows
  33. fax drivers/TSRs loaded. If they are, neither will answer the fax. <<<
