FINAL APPROACH ais (airport in sight) ver 2.4
For FS4 default or SD-9 scenery IND_READ.1ST file
includes Indianapolis Int'l airport
You are piloting SIMAIR flight 527 to Indianapolis. As you descend
through 3,000 feet on the ILS approach, you are not alone in the
sky and the airfield ahead is not just a bunch of flat lines. You
cross the outer marker, gear is down and locked, reduce speed, the
airport is in sight ! You are on .... FINAL APPROACH !

Being a flight simulator enthusiast myself, I know that you want to
start flying right now. Once FA (Final Approach) is installed,
using it is quick and simple. To avoid delays and problems, please
read the instructions BEFORE running the installation program
INSTALFA.BAT or the RUNWAY.EXE program.
Following is a brief summary of what's necessary to set FA up. For
more detailed information see the FAMANUAL.INF file.
Setup for and install Final Approach by taking these actions.
1. Change the default configurations for scenery memory and active
objects in the FS4 scenery designer menu. If you don't set the
memory and active objects high enough, the FA static and/or
dynamic scenery won't display. If you need help, these changes
are quick, easy, and covered in the FAMANUAL. The Indy area FA
scenery requires the following minimum settings in the A&SD,
Aircraft & Scenery Designer setup configuration: Static memory
- 16300, Dynamic memory - 26500, scenery objects active - 38.
2. If you've created or obtained A&SD scenery files, make sure
that they don't use the same name as the FA scenery files and
don't interfere with the FA scenery by covering the same area.
Indianapolis FA uses scenery files named INDAPLS.SC1 and
INDAPLS.DY1. There are further details in the FAMANUAL.
3. If you received FA as a compressed (eg. ZIP) file then
decompress (eg. UNZIP) it to a temporary subdirectory.
4. The installation program INSTALFA.BAT places most of the FA
files in special directories so:
DON'T decompress FA files directly to the FS4 or FS5 directory.
DON'T copy all the FA files to the FS4 or FS5 directory.
NEVER mix files from different scenery areas.
DO delete the files from the temporary directory before
unzipping a new scenery area.
5. If you have all the FA files including INSTALFA.BAT in a
temporary directory on your hard drive change to that drive and
directory. An example of the installation commands to install
FA in the standard setup would be something like this:
INSTALFA INDAPLS C:\FATEMP C:\SIMS\FS4 4 press ENTER
Parameters (information strings) which are typed after the
page 1 of 2
command INSTALFA tell the INSTALFA program what scenery files
are being installed (INDAPLS) ; the path to the source
directory where the FA files are located (C:\FATEMP) ; the path
to the target directory where your Flight Simulator files are
located (C:\SIMS\FS4) ; and the version of Flight Simulator to
which FA is being installed (4) . Of course your drive and
path names may be different. By typing just INSTALFA (no
parameters) and ENTER you will see the installation help
screens and examples.
6. After Final Approach is installed run the RUNWAY program by
typing AR then ENTER from the FS4 directory to choose the
active runways. No FA scenery will display until you make the
initial active runway choice. Once installed, you can choose
new active runways in seconds at any Final Approach airport.
The FAMANUAL has details on using the RUNWAY program. The
RUNWAY program itself has menus to guide you to your choices.
7. FS5 users, see the FS5_ADDL.INF file for the requirements and
differences in using Final Approach with FS5.
Once you've explored the airport scenery and nav-aids, you may want
to try approaches & landings using the approach instructions which
you'll find in the IND.INF text file. That file also lists all the
ILS frequencies you now have at Indianapolis International.
If you use the FA Indianapolis area scenery with the FS default
scenery rather than SD-9, you may find slight variance from the INF
files in distances and headings.
Two mode files included position you above or on Indianapolis
International. Run the demo file included to observe an ILS
approach & landing at Indy International. See the IND.INF file
before running the demo.
Here's a list of files you should have received. When you install
FA the text files will be placed in a directory named FA_INFO. In
FS4, the FA_INFO subdirectory is created in the FS4 directory. In
FS5, FA_INFO is created in the FS5\SCENERY directory. Text files
have a wide left margin. You can use a hole punch & put the printed
files in a soft or hard cover binder. You may wish to delete the
information files from your hard drive after printing them.
