FS5_ADDL.INF
FS5 Addendum For Final Approach
This file provides information for FS5 users which is not found in
the FAMANUAL.INF file. FS5 users should also become familiar with
the FAMANUAL.
Limitations: Final Approach (FA) may be used with FS5 to display
enhanced airport scenery (static scenery). The arriving,
departing, and parked aircraft (dynamic scenery) designed for FS4
will NOT display with FS5. Also, for some reason, the FA green &
white airport beacons don't display properly on FS5. FS5 cannot
use the FS4 demos and modes supplied with Final Approach.
Requirements: You do NOT need the FS4 Aircraft & Scenery Designer
to display Final Approach airport scenery in FS5 (You DO need it
for FS4). However, you DO need to have FS4 type base scenery as
you must select FS4 "world" scenery before you can turn on any FS4
type Aircraft & Scenery Designer static scenery (.SC1 scenery
files). Final Approach scenery works with the standard scenery,
which is the F1 file (not F1.DYN, just F1) that is included with
FS4 or with the Midwest Scenery Disk, SD-9 from SubLOGIC (R). You
must copy the F1 file or the SD-9.SCN file (or both if you wish)
to your FS5 SCENERY subdirectory to use the FA scenery within FS5.
Once installed in FS5 you can run FA by typing AR5 and pressing
ENTER . When you do this the RUNWAY program will run and you can
select new active runways. When you exit the RUNWAY program, FS5
automatically boots up. You must then go to the FS5 SCENERY menu,
then to SCENERY LIBRARY and select the Old FS4 World Scenery F1,
or FS4 Scenery Disk SD-9.SCN, before turning on the SC1 scenery.
Your FA scenery is displayed as SC1 scenery.
To run the RUNWAY program without automatically running FS5,
change to the FS5 SCENERY subdirectory, type RUNWAY and press
ENTER . After exiting the RUNWAY program you will need to change
back to your FS5 directory before running FS5.
Although FS5 cannot display the Final Approach dynamic files
(.DY1), when you select a new active runway, the RUNWAY program
expects to find FA files with the extension .DYX and tries to copy
the appropriate .DYX file & give it a file name ending with .DY1 .
When you install Final Approach indicating that it is for FS5,
instead of installing the actual .DYX files, which are large, the
installation program installs small dummy files. These dummy
dynamic files have the extension .DUM before installation. They
are renamed with the .DYX extension upon installation. So, if you
have both FS4 and FS5, don't copy Final Approach files back and
forth between the two. Use the INSTALFA.BAT program with the
appropriate command for either FS4 or FS5.

When you run the FA RUNWAY program, two files are copied to your
FS5 SCENERY directory for each scenery area. For the Chicago area
an .SCX file and a .DYX file are copied as CHICAGO.SC1 and
CHICAGO.DY1 to the FS5 SCENERY directory when you select Chicago
active runways. FS5 does not use the dynamic .DY1 scenery files
but the RUNWAY program will not function properly if it does not
find the appropriate .DYX file to copy into the SCENERY directory
as a DY1 file. Small dummy .DYX files are substituted for the
large .DYX files used by FS4.
With FS5, the program AR5.BAT must be located in the FS5
directory. RUNWAY.EXE and the RFRUNWAY subdirectory must be
located in the FS5 SCENERY subdirectory.
