The word "heart" here is the equivalent of ~G~Ipersonality~N. The idea of purity
in |Psalm 51:10| (|Psalm 24:3|) is coupled with a right spirit in which the ideas
of ~W~Iintegrity and singleness of purpose (no mixed motives in serving Christ)
dominate~N. The heart stands for the whole innerself, mind as well as feeling.
~M~IPure~N translates "katharos" which is the term for ~M~Icleansing~N. Note that
purity in heart contrasts with ritual cleansing of hands and body. Jesus
brushed aside ritual cleansings in the interest of real purity, that of the

heart.(|Ch 15| |23:20|). ~W~IPurity of heart is simplicity or integrity as against
duplicity. It is the concentration of the whole self upon God~N.
This emphasis on the inner self is to cause no indifference to the outward
life of words and deeds. Outward life is to reflect inner purity. To such is
given the capacity to ~R~I~Fsee God wherever he reveals himself~N.
