  13. Computerized sales and inventory systems were once the exclusive preserve of
  14. large retail organizations, but a growing number of smaller operations are now
  15. turning to microcomputers to get the same kind of management functions. The
  16. goal of these functions is to control costs while satisfying customer expect-
  17. ations. The way to achieve it is through good inventory control, accurate
  18. sales tracking and quick access to detailed information about every item in
  19. the store.

  21. Retail Plus+ is a tool that serves that goal. It is designed for those who
  22. want to reduce their sales-to-inventory ratio and who want timely information
  23. about each item they carry. It is also designed for those who spend too much
  24. time making up purchase orders, counting stock, tracking sales manually or
  25. figuring out what works and what doesn't. It is an organizer, a record-keeper,
  26. an analyzer and a time saver. Retail Plus+ has the following features:

  55. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  57. > IBM-PC, PS/2, or compatibles.

  59. > A hard disk drive with at least 2MB of free space.

  63. > A printer capable of compressed print (15 cpi), or a wide carriage printer
  64.   (132 columns). For printing bar code labels you will need an HP LaserJet or

  67. > Optional - a POS printer for sales slips, an automatic cash drawer or an
  68.   electronic cash register that sends data to a PC. This version of Retail
  69.   Plus+ is set up to work with data files from TEC MA-1900 cash registers. If
  70.   you want to use it with another register system please contact us for more

  73. If you do not have a cash register that can send data to a PC there are two
  74. other methods of entering sales into the system. See the Manual and P.O.S.
  75. options under the Sales menu.

  78.                            INSTALLING RETAIL PLUS+
  79.  
  80. Retail Plus+ is supplied as an archive file called "RETAILP4.ZIP". It contains
  81. all the files you need. Follow these steps to get a functioning system onto
  82. your hard drive:

  84. 1 - At the "C:>" prompt create a new directory on your hard drive and go to
  85. that directory:
  86.  
  87.                       MD RETAIL             <press enter>
  88.                       CD\RETAIL             <press enter>
  89.  
  90. 2 - Using an archive un-packing utility such as UNZIP.EXE, unpack the contents
  91. of RETAILP4.ZIP into the new directory:
  92.  
  93.             UNZIP [drive:\directory\] RETAILP4  <press enter>
  94.

  96. 3 - Now check for a file called "CONFIG.SYS" in the root directory of the
  97. startup drive. If it is there it should contain the following statements with
  98. the minimum values shown:

  100.                       FILES = 20
  101.                       BUFFERS = 8
  102.  
  103. You can see the contents of the file just by typing:
  104.  
  105.                       TYPE CONFIG.SYS       <press enter>
  106.  
  107. If these statements are absent you can use any text editor to insert them. If
  108. the file does not exist, you can easily create one with the following steps:
  109.  
  110. 1 - Go to the root directory:
  111.  
  112.                       CD\                   <press enter>
  113.  
  114. 2 - Create a file called CONFIG.SYS and put the two lines in it:
  115.  
  116.                       COPY CON CONFIG.SYS   <press enter>
  117.                       FILES = 20            <press enter>
  118.                       BUFFERS = 8           <press enter>

  120. 3 - Close the file:
  121.  
  122.                       <press F6 then press enter>
