  7. Version 4.2 is a must for your 1993 Family Search IGI text downloads.
  8. The format of the new IGI was changed and in turn, IGI255 has been
  9. modified to accommodate those changes. Earlier versions of IGI255 will
  10. not process the 1993 IGI properly and the initial release version 4.0
  11. will only process specific '93 IGI beta versions.

  13. Several improvements have also been made to IGI255 and although the
  14. documentation file IGI25535.NFO has not been updated, the following is
  15. a brief summary of them...

  19.                Optional LDS Ordinance Codes Processing
  20.  
  21. Reserved for the LDS Ordinance information, 3 fields of 21 spaces each
  22. are added to each .DBF created, even if the ordinance information was
  23. not downloaded. Therefore, the size of each .DBF will increase by 20-
  24. 30%.

  26. If you do not download your IGI text files with the LDS Ordinance
  27. information, disable this option to save space.

  29. At the Main Menu, choose "Setup". At the Setup Menu, hi-lite the "LDS
  30. Ord=Y" option and press Enter. The (Y)es will change to a (N)o. The
  31. LDS Ordinance option may also be toggled on and off by pressing the
  32. "L" key at the file select screen when creating a DBF.

  36.           Improved Batch/Film#'s Handling & "Special Codes"
  37.  
  38. The Batch field has been increased to 28 spaces and will contain all
  39. of the Batch/Sheet and Film/Page/Ord numbers. The first 3 "Special
  40. Codes" are retained in the field previously used for the Sheet
  41. information.

  43. In some cases, the IGI will have a "Printout" number or other
  44. extraneous verbiage which will not be recorded. Generally, this type
  45. of entry is obvious but, before using the IGI255 numbers to order film
  46. from Salt Lake, compare them with the original text file or the Family
  47. Search Catalog for accuracy.

  51.                       Improved Text File Output

  53. Text file output is now consistent with the Field Output selections
  54. of the Printer Setup menu.

  58.                        ASCII Delimited Output
  59.  
  60. The Delimited Ascii option is now activated on the text file output
  61. menu. The contents of each field, empty or otherwise, is bracketed
  62. by quote marks ("") and separated by a comma (,).

  66.          "Detail" Display - Optional View of an Entry's Data
  67.  
  68. Since a computer screen is only 80 characters wide, the "scroll-
  69. screen" can show only so much information on a single line. Hi-lite an
  70. entry, press the Enter or the Right Arrow key and a box will appear
  71. with the information in a "vertical" format.

  73. While in the vertical view, the Up, Down, Page Up, Page Down, Home and
  74. End keys allow navigation through the entries. The ESC, Enter or Left
  75. Arrow keys will return control to the scroll-screen.

  79.   "Special Codes" Help - You Don't Have to Remember What They Mean
  80.  
  81. Pressing F1 at the scroll-screen or while viewing an entry in the
  82. vertical format will produce a help box that shows the Event Code and
  83. Special Code definitions.

  85. The Up and Down arrow keys will move this box up and down on the
  86. screen.  Press ESC, Enter or the Left arrow key to return to the
  87. previous screen.

  91.     Improved "Relative" Handling - Know Who They Are at a Glance
  92.  
  93. When "no parents are listed", the Relative's name (if given) is placed
  94. in the Mother field. Version 4.0 placed a "(r)" at the end of the name
  95. but this made it difficult to know which entries represented a
  96. relative. Beginning with Version 4.2, relatives are shown with a plus
  97. sign (+)  next to their name.

  101.    Expanded Print String Option - Send Custom Codes Before & After

  103. The print setup has been revamped and is easier to navigate. A formal
  104. printer selection routine is reserved for a future version, but 2 sets
  105. of "print strings" are now allowed.  Each set, designated as Printer
  106. #1 and Printer #2, can contain up to 3 separate strings - 2 of which
  107. are used prior to printing and 1 after - and each string can hold
  108. enough codes to satisfy the most sophisticated laser needs.

  110. This means that codes for 2 different printers can be stored and
  111. switching between them is relatively painless. Happen to have an Epson
  112. 850 and a HP 4L? Try this:

  123.       Downward Compatibility with Pre '93 Downloads and .DBF's
  124.  
  125. Pre '93 text downloads and .DBF's created with earlier versions of the
  126. program can be processed and manipulated. Remember that the "old"
  127. .DBF's don't have the same batch field size or the new ordinance
  128. fields.  Therefore when possible, re-process with Version 4.
  129.  
  130. If you must combine an "old" .DBF with a "new" one, add the old to the
  131. new. In other words, create the new .DBF as usual. Then select and
  132. view the old. Press F2 at the scroll-screen, select .DBF, enter the
  133. name of the new .DBF, and when the "file exists warning" appears,
  134. select "add to it".

  136. If you send a new file to an old, the batch information will not be
  137. complete and if the ordinance information was processed, it will not
  138. be transferred.

  156. IGI255 Version 4.2 is being released as Freeware. It is not public
  157. domain material or Shareware - this means, simply put, that I retain
  158. all the rights to the program but anyone is more than welcome to use
  159. it for their own personal needs. Anyone wishing to distribute the
  160. program to others may do so and access a reasonable and normal charge
  161. for disk media, mailer and postage. Commercial computer on-line
  162. services are allowed appropriate distribution through their normal
  163. course of business. There are no warranties associated with IGI255,
  164. implied or expressed - used at your own risk.
