  20.         The Henry numbering system is a way of numbering descendants of a 
  21.         person.  It  is named after Reginald Buchanan Henry, who used the
  22.         system in his book "Genealogies of the Families of the
  23.         Presidents."  The starting person is given the number 1.  His 
  24.         first child is numbered 11,  his second child is 12, his third
  25.         child is 13, etc.  The children of 12 are 121, 122, 123,  124,
  26.         125, etc.  Each person's number starts with his  parent's number
  27.         and adds a digit  to represent his position in the family.  Thus
  28.         if a person  has  the number 142835, he is in the sixth generation
  29.         (there are six digits), and he is the  fifth child of the third
  30.         child of  the eighth child of the second child of the fourth child
  31.         of  the starting person.

  33.         What if there are more than 9 children in a family?  One way to
  34.         handle this is to put  the number in parentheses: e.g. 142(10)35. 
  35.         An alternative way uses the letters A to Z,  where A is 10, B is
  36.         11, C is 12, etc.  This method is the one used in the program, for
  37.         it saves space and simplifies computer operations such as sorting.

  39.         Why would one want to use the Henry system?  It is the simplest
  40.         way to  trace generations back and forth when perusing a
  41.         manuscript, for the Henry number of  any person's ancestors or
  42.         descendants is known.  Furthermore, lines can be  extended 
  43.         without renumbering when new information is found. Indexing a
  44.         manuscript is a  simple matter - page numbers are not required, as
  45.         Henry numbers are sufficient to locate  any person.
