  21.         Are all the individuals in your PAF data base connected into one
  22.         family tree?  The old saying goes "You can't see the forest for
  23.         the trees," but the reverse may be true for a large genealogy data
  24.         base.  When we import GEDCOM files, or even when we do a large
  25.         amount of data entry ourselves, we may end up with many separated
  26.         small family  trees which cannot be located in the tangled forest
  27.         we have created.  It becomes harder  and harder to tell if we have
  28.         grafted all the branches in our file onto one large tree.

  30.         FOREST will count the number of independent trees in your data
  31.         base and  create a file called FOREST.PAF which lists the RIN
  32.         (record identification number), name, and tree number for each
  33.         individual.   It also produces a status report on the  screen
  34.         which tells the number of trees it has located and the number of
  35.         individuals on each tree.  A file called FOREST.LST provides a
  36.         summary as well.  You may optionally make  an  abbreviated file
  37.         called FORESTX.PAF which contains all individuals "eXcept" those
  38.         who were included in the largest tree.

  40.         The word "tree" is used here in its mathematical sense, a branched
  41.         structure  of points (people) and connections (relationships).  A
  42.         tree consists of all individuals who  are linked in some way,
  43.         whether it be by birth OR marriage.

  46.         clear up connection problems in your PAF data.
