The Fan Card
============
Does your computer overheat and hang, or behave strangely, usually at
the worst possible time? Are you running a 24 hour BBS where the case
is packed with hard drives and a 386/486 type CPU. Dissipating all that
heat from your system can be a chore. Using a CPU fan or heat sink on
your CPU *ONLY* is ridiculous. Why not add 2 additional fans to your
system to circulate the air among all your components and keep your
system up to 30 degrees cooler!
FanCard is a unique product to cool your computer. It adds 2 additional
fans to your system to circulate the air within your case. The fans are
bidirectional and force air to circulate among your various components.
The fans are mounted on a full size 8 bit computer card that takes up
one slot of in your computer. The card averages about 1/2" in thickness.
The FanCard was designed to dissipate heat in today's personal computers
packed with add-ins, a job that the PC's power supply fan is inadequate to
handle. With so many of today's I/O card using VLSI chips which have a
tendency to become very hot, the FanCard will eliminate overheating
problems. It will also keep your hard disk cool. The fan in your
computer is only to draw heat from the power supply. The FanCard
circulates air directly on and around the board and components generating
the most heat.
Each FanCard is equipped with a large LED to show that the power is on,
Technical Specifications:
Rated Voltage : 12 Volt
Rated Current : 0.2 Ampere
Rated Input : 2.4 Watts
Max Air Volume: 0.7 Cu.M/Min.
Noise (at 1 m): 32 db
Life Expectancy: 30,000 hours.
I've used a FanCard in my BBS, The Solar System, for over a year now.
They run very quite and the increase in circulation has helped to keep
my system cool even during the hottest summer days. ( It's like putting
a mini-hurricane in your computer! <grin> ). Thought has to be given to
the placement of the card in your system. Most motherboards have an 8 bit
slot closest to the power supply. I put my FanCard into this slot. Even
though the circulation is not perfect (the other cards are facing the
full card length fan card and interfere with the circulation, but you can
feel the difference in circulation by placing your hand over the vents in
your computer....) the amount of air moving around the case is
significantly increased. The fans themselves are pretty unique. Only
a 1/2"-3/4" thick avg. with one 'pulling' the air one direction and the other
fan 'pushing' the air in the other, hence bidirectional circulation.
You will want to make sure you place the FanCard in your first or last
slot on your motherboard so as to not 'enclose' the fans in other cards
and hamper circulation. With a little thought you can very easily
decrease the operating temperature of your system by increasing air
circulation.
I've enclosed a GIF of the FanCard so you can take a look at the unit.
