CPU Kooler
Stick Fan
by Tony Curro
In the sweltering summer, we try to keep as cool as possible. If you
are running a computer for a long period, especially a 486-50 or
higher, it needs to be cool also. Many have a heatsink that reduces
the temperature, but it could still be cooler.
PCubid Computer Technology has several fans out that will fit into
everyone's needs. CPU Kooler has a heatsink embedded within the fan.
The Stick Fan is made for those who already have a heatsink on their
CPU.
Installation is a breeze for each. It should take even a novice
about 2 minutes to do the job. I went to Radio Shack to look for a
fan. I saw one, but I had to wire it to a connector. CPU Kooler and
Stick Fan both come assembled. You just remove the adhesive backing
from the fan, and affix it on top of the CPU. If you do not have
room above the CPU, the Stick Fan can be attached to any surface,
even the motherboard, as long as it is near the CPU. CPU Kooler is
made for 486 and Pentium chips. You then connect the power cable to
an existing power cord. If you do not have an extra one you can
purchase a Y-adapter from PCubid for $3.
I am running an Intel OverDrive chip that has a heatsink. The chip
did get hot. I could not touch the chip for more than a millisecond.
While Intel assured me that it should be all right, they also said a
fan would be a help. Since I have installed Stick Fan, I can leave
my finger on the chip forever.
I recommend this product highly. Why burn up your computer, which
can cost you large amounts of money, when you can keep it cool for
under $40.
