+-------------------------------------------------------------+
| 1. FREQUENT PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS |
+-------------------------------------------------------------+
| 1. 05/22/92
| PROBLEM:
| Host print problems after applying WXR5050.
| Some Problems with Host Print and CSD WR05050,
| characterized by 'system error' print status in 3270
| Print Control, no printer output, no spooler activity,
| Type 0044, Subtype 0000B097 errors in the CM error log,
| may be resolved by assuring that the proper default queue
| and default printer are selected.
|
| SOLUTION:
| In Print Manager select the following in order:
| "SETUP, APPLICATION DEFAULTS,"
| at this point a listing of default printers and
| queues will be displayed.
| The selected queue and printer is highlighted.
|
| 2. 2/03/93
| PROBLEM:
| Other problems have been resolved by the REMAKING of the
| .INI files.
|
| SOLUTION:
| Please reference the OS/2 EE 1.3 USERS GUIDE, VOLUME 1,
| BASE OPERATING SYSTEM, 01F0289, pages 10-6 and 10-7
| for instructions on rebuilding the .INI files
| (using the MAKEINI command).
|
| A. Copy the OLD OS2.INI file back to "OS2.INI". We
| will use the OLD OS2.INI and the NEW OS2SYS.INI files.
|
| B. REBOOT the machine with this configuration.
|
| C. Rebuild the queues in Print Manager and re-associate
| the printers and the queues.
|
| Also reference APAR JR05732.
|
| 3. 1/25/93
| PROBLEM:
| Extra pages received after applying CSDs
| WR05050 and WR05100.
|
| SOLUTION:
| Some of the device drivers were changed in WR05050.
| reference apars JR03828 and JR05778. The solution is
| to have the host program suppress the additional form
| feeds (x'0C') in the job stream. You can verify this
| by looking at a DLC trace of the print job. Look for a
| x'0C' in the print job where you are experiencing the
| extra pages, if the x'0C' is present, then the host
| program needs to be changed. A possible temporary
| circumvention is to restore to an earlier version of
| the device driver until the host program can be altered.
| ** Note - this may not work in all cases. **
|
| 4. 09/02/92
| PROBLEM:
| Host print job wraps at column 80 on HP Laserjet
| printer even though PM_Q_RAW is used.
|
| SOLUTION:
| A possible circumvention is to check CPI setting
| in 3270 PRINT CONTROL. If it is set to 10, change
| it to 17 CPI. The emulator uses an algorithm that
| looks at the print line coming down in the job stream
| and compares it with the space allocated for it to
| print in - which is limited by print density (CPI)
| and page size (job properties). This plus the margins
| (which are fixed on the HP) determine how many
| characters per line are printed.
|
| 5. 11/21/92
| PROBLEMS:
| HOST PRINT problems after applying OS/2 2.0
| ServicePak - XR06055
|
| First page of host print job missing.
| Blank first page of host print job.
| Error msg PMVxxxx indicating corrupt metafile.
|
| SOLUTION:
| In the Printer Object Settings select the Queue
| Options tab then select Printer-specific format.
| A raw data file will be created instead of a metafile.
| Rerference apar PJ06608 for addition information.
|
| 6. 01/25/93
| PROBLEM:
| Customer applied the OS/2 ServicePak and now when
| performing Shift-Print-Screen, attempting to print to the
| Print Server, receives a SYSTEM ERROR in 3270 Print Control.
|
| SOLUTION:
| The problem has been documented in LAN apar IC04859 and
| can be obtained by requeuing to the LAN support group.
|
|
| 7. 12/03/92
| PROBLEM:
| PM_Q_RAW not functioning with VPS (a Host OEM
| Spooler Application).
|
| SOLUTION:
| There are two ways that PM_Q_RAW can be used:
| 1. Place the text string PM_Q_RAW as the first eight
| characters in the host print job.
| 2. Configure a print queue that will specifically use
| PM_Q_RAW.
|
| 8. 01/25/93
| PROBLEM:
| VPS is sending a Begin Bracket followed by NULLS
| then the second RU contains the PM_Q_RAW string.
|
| SOLUTION:
| There are two solutions to this problem:
| 1. Configure a print queue for PM_Q_RAW
| 2. Contact VPS for special fix 60936, note that
| this is a special fix available only by request.
|
| For further information about PM_Q_RAW please reference
| the 3270 Host Print document published by the National
| Technical Support. It is available on MKTTOOLS as CMHOSTP.
|
| 9. 1/18/93
| PROBLEM:
| After applying WXR5100, the 3270 Print Control SETUP,
| OPTIONS and CONFIGURATION settings are reset to unwanted
| values. Reference apar JR06760 for additional details.
|
| SOLUTION:
| Manually change each 3270 Print Control setting to an
| appropriate value and apply apar JR06760 when available.
|
|10. 4/29/93
| PROBLEM:
| TRAP 000D or SYS3175 in ACS3ETQ.DLL while performing
| 3270 HOST PRINT. Reference either ES apar JR06420 or EE
| sysrout apar JR06759 for additional information.
|
| NOTE: ES apar JR06679 was closed DUP of JR06420.
|
| SOLUTION:
| ES customers should apply JR06420, and EE customers
| should apply WXR5100 and JR06759.
|
|11. 1/18/93
| PROBLEM:
| HOST PRINT HANG CONDITIONS:
| There have been several HANG conditions reported
| against 3270 Print Control, and they are as follows:
|
| A. HANG with 3270 Print Control showing JOB STARTED, yet
| no jobs are being sent to WS. In some cases the HANG
| has recovered, and the Host file did complete, but
| hours later. Sometimes, the SNA TIMER appears to be
| the culpret.
|
| B. HANG with 3270 Print Control showing nothing active,
| yet files are waiting on Host print queue.
|
| SOLUTION:
| The above (2) symptoms have been resolved by ES apar
| JR06420 or EE apar JR06759.
|
| Notes: 1. ES apar JR06653 was closed DUP of JR06420.
| 2. WXR5100 should be applied with JR06759.
| 3. If your running IBM4033 and the Lexmark
| SPOOL Utility, please obtain the latest
| Lexmark driver (Lptx.sys).
|12. 01/22/93
| Problem:
| Print Server fails with TYPE 0044 SUBTYPE 0000C003
| while trying to print host file. The Print Server is
| running the LEXMARK SPOOL Utility which routes output
| to remote printers attached to 4033 devices on the LAN.
| Vtam was generating a SNA RC of 081C for this failure.
|
|
| SOLUTION:
| This problem was resolved by installing the latest
| LEXMARK SPOOL Utility and changing the Network
| Adapter Print Utiliy Timeout parameter from 60 to 90.
|

| Trace (SEE II06459).
| 5. In the SPOOL queuename directory on your workstation
| you will find 2 files. The files have an extension of
| .SHD and .SPL copy these files as pmrnumber.SHD and
| pmrnumber.SPL (pmrnumber is the IBM Problem Record Number).
| 6. Release the print queue in Print Manager and let the job
| print.
| 7. Save the paper printout, if any.
| 8. Send the Normal Trace as noted in II06459 along with the
| CONFIG.SYS (call this file pmrnumber.SYS), pmrnumber.SPL
