Carter has a masters degree in painting from Florida State University. For five years after his expulsion from academia he did the "Artist" thing in the American southeast, winning some shows, getting some grants and awards, and making next to no money. He then took some time off to start a family. When he was ready to come back, he found that the artistic landscape had changed, and so he decided to change as well. He has spent the last year converting his expressionistic painterly style over to digital language. He works for Eyebeam, a Color Postscript Service Bureau in Research Triangle Park, NC, where he does photo retouching, and miscellaneous file enhancements. When not in front of his retouch station, he can be found either on the soccer fields of Raleigh with his children, Sonja and Beckett, or wandering the thrift shops with his wife Grace, searching for previously owned items that he didn't realize he needed until he found them.
