- TELEDOX, The Telecommunications Primer
- Version 1.00, February, 1992
-
- Part I. TELEDOX
-
- TELEDOX is a comprehensive telecommunications primer. It contains
- information that will help in understanding all those cyrptic terms you hear.
- It explains those weird protocol v-things like v.32, etc. In addition, more
- than enough RS-232C (Serial Communication) information is given to allow
- anyone to fabricate cables to connect almost any computer serial peripheral
- to another. Also, the entire Hayes 1200/2400 baud command set is here, along
- with the definition of those often misunderstood modem registers.
-
-
- Part II. The Hypertext Reader Program
-
- The hypertext reader is written and distributed by MaxThink of Kensington,
- CA. It is not a public domain program, but can be used without charge as the
- author, Neils Larson wishes to promote the use of hypertext.
-
- We, of course, are thankful...
-
- All you need do is enter "TELEDOX" at the DOS command prompt to use it. You
- *MUST* be in the directory where the reader's files are located. This means
- that if your default directory is currently C:\SOME\WHERE\ELSE, you need to
- enter, CD \TLELDOX to make the online documentation directory the default.
-
- The major commands you will want to use are listed below.
-
-
- Part IIA. Reader Commands
-
- PROCESS ACTION RESULTS
-
- EDITOR CALLS Press "E" Loads editor with current
- file. This command loads a
- user-selected editor with the
- current ASCII text file (the
- one you're viewing). You can
- customize this option by using
- the cursor Del. and Backspace
- keys to edit the "E" command
- line (Status Line) after
- pressing "E" to include your
- favorite text editor. TELEDOX
- will automatically save your
- editor name in the CONFIG.HP
- file.
-
- VIEW BUFFER Press "V" Displays LEFT ARROW buffer.
- Pressing "V" displays the
- backstep buffer. Arrow keys
- select any previously dis-
- played files. This bypasses
- the use of the Left Arrow
- command to display all the
- intermediate files
-
- WORD LOOKUP Press "F" Finds WORD in text.
-
- DOS CALL Press "D" Enter DOS command. When you
- press "D", the Status Line
- allows you to enter a DOS
- command. Pressing the ENTER
- key will then run the command.
-
- SET COLORS Press "C" Changes default colors. This
- isn't a really important com-
- mand. You'll probably only
- use it once or twice to set
- your colors.
-
- CLIPBOARD Press F5 Copy marked text to CLIP.TXT.
- Using this command, you can
- copy and paste the text from
- any of the on-line documenta-
- tion files to a scratch file
- named CLIP.TXT. This can come
- in VERY handy when you want to
- copy a script example or the
- description of how a certain
- script function works.
-
- First, use the Plus (+) and
- Minus (-) keys to mark the
- beginning line, the F5 key to
- turn the highlighting on. Use
- the Arrow keys to select the
- area you want copied. The
- Status Line will read:
-
-
- ┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- │Append:A; Overwrite:O; Esc, Home, End, Up, Down, PgUp, PgDn │
- └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
-
- QUIT Press "Q" Exit TELEDOX. Pressing "X" or
- Alt-X will accomplish the same
- thing. Pressing any of these
- keys will cause the Status
- Line to ask if you really want
- to exit. Press "Y" to con-
- firm, or "N" to continue.
-
- PRINT Press "P" Pressing the letter, "P",
- while viewing any of the on-
- line document files will cause
- that file to be sent to LPT1.
-
-
- Part IIB. Reader Command Summary
-
- All of these commands are interesting, but the ones you need to really become
- familiar with are the Arrow keys. Virtually all of your use of TELEDOX will
- require using these keys.
-
- ARROW KEY DESCRIPTION
-
- The Up Arrow selects the previous (highlighted)
- hypertext jump.
-
- The Down Arrow selects the next (highlighted
- hypertext jump. If there's not a HyperJump on the
- page, you will go to the next page as if you had
- pressed PgDn.
-
-
- The Right Arrow chooses the highlighted hyperJump.
- This will be a highlighted filename enclosed in angle
- brackets:
-
-
- Example: <INDEX>
-
- Whenever you press the Left Arrow key TELEDOX will
- make a HyperJump back to the file you were previ-
- ously viewing before the present one. You can
- jump back through files until you reach START.TXT.
- Alternately, you can press Ctrl-Home.
-
-
- Part III. Miscellaneous Information
-
- Thanks for evaluating TELEDOX. It's in the self-extracting archive named,

- PHEW!:
-
- By now you're probably wondering, "What does all this legal jargon have to do
- with me? It only has to do with you if you like the TELEDOX program and
- intend to use it past the evaluation period (30 days).
-
- What follows is not a bid for your pity, but simply the way things are....
-
- Both my wife, Cindy, and I have Multiple Sclerosis and are mostly found in
- our home because of the physical limitations it places on us. The only
- income I produce is by writing and selling software like TELEDOX.
-
- All of that having been said, there's only one thing more. I will appreciate
- you registering as a TELEDOX user. It will only cost you $5.00! TELEDOX,
- as you have it, is the fully functional version. It's not some half-hearted
- version where you have to register to really make it worthy. I've decided to
- just lay it out there and rely on your sense of fair play.
-
- Thanks, Gene...
-
- P.S. I've been criticized for making the above appeal. It seems the one who
- criticized thought that you would register just because I have MS. I
- don't think so. I don't feel any less professional because of this.
- When you register, I'd appreciate any comments concerning this you may
- have.
-
- Registration: Please send $5.00 in cash, check, or money order along with a
- 360k DSDD diskette and SASE mailer to -
