Mailing Lists

The Gundam Mailing List is an e-mail discussion list is devoted to general Gundam topics. David Van Cleef is the maintainer of the list, which runs off a DX4/100 Linux box named "Hyakushiki." To subscribe, send a message to majordomo@aeug.org with the words "subscribe gundam" in the message body. Selected past discussions are archived at the Gundam Mailing List Archive.

There are now two versions of the Gundam Wing Mailing List, a list devoted to the new series on the block and the folks who love it. To subscribe to the new low-noise list (recommended for those who want to stay on-topic), send a message to majordomo@animanga.com with the words "subscribe gwing" in the message body. Selected past discussions, and additional signup instructions, are archived at The Gundam Wing Mailing List Archive.

This section of the Gundam Project is dedicated to useful, informative, and newsworthy online resources for the Gundam fan. If you have a Gundam site or resource to plug, drop us a line at scorpio@best.com. Note: Our collection of Japanese fan sites has been temporarily pulled, since most of them have disappeared since we last checked. Go figure.

Commercial Web Sites

AnimeVillage.com
A new Web site operated by Bandai Entertainment, the Bandai subsidiary that will be bringing Gundam to the U.S. this fall. AnimeVillage.com will be, at least initially, the only source for these U.S. releases. In addition to direct video sales, the site also hosts discussion boards, games, and live chats, and will later offer a fan art gallery and other community-building features. Registration is free, and if you sign up now you'll be entered in a prize drawing.

Bandai [JAPANESE]
The entertainment juggernaut that holds the Gundam franchise. Though the animation is done by Bandai's Sunrise subsidiary, Bandai has a lock on such key merchandise as videos, laser discs and model kits. The company's Web site has a searchable listing of new products which includes many of the model kits, as well as a page devoted to the latest video games.

Gundam Perfect Web [JAPANESE]
Launched on August 1, this is Bandai's official Gundam Web site for the Japanese audience. It covers Gundam-related announcements, upcoming model kits and videos, and other material of interest to "Gundam freaks."

Sunrise [JAPANESE]
The animation studio that fills our empty lives with the glory of Gundam. Sunrise's primary online presence is on Japan's NiftyServe service. On its Web site, you'll find info on NiftyServe's Sunrise Station, plus material on current TV shows and video series. Of particular note is a listing of publications, videos, LDs, CDs and CD-ROMs, including information on third-party publications. There's also an English version with some general background info.

Sunrise: Big Bang Project [JAPANESE]
Catch up on Sunrise's plans for Gundam's 20th anniversary on this special Web page! For the Japanese-impaired, the plans include the summer release of the Endless Waltz Special Edition and 08th MS Team: Miller's Report movies, documented on Sunrise's Gundam the Movie page, as well as the reissue of just about every Gundam video and soundtrack album ever made. Two new television productions are planned for 1999 - an animated series directed by Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino, and a television special called G-Saviour that will combine live action and computer graphics.

UCI Anime Store
The UC Irvine bookstore has a good selection of import laser discs and music at low prices, and can also do special orders. Your best bet for audio and video shopping.

HobbyLink Japan
A Japan-based mail-order model shop run by Scott T. Hards. A good choice for thrifty model fiends, with a convenient online Gundam Kits Catalog.

Rainbow Ten
Another Japan-based mail-order model shop. We haven't dealt with them first-hand, but we've heard good things about them.

Bandai America
Bandai's U.S. branch, home of Tamagotchi and toys galore.

Hobby Japan [JAPANESE]
The home page of the Gundam fan's modelling magazine, with information on the latest issue and notice of upcoming book releases.

Mediaworks [JAPANESE]
Though its specialty is video games, this publisher has lots of Gundam books in its online catalog.

Asahiya Shuppan [JAPANESE]
Publisher of the highly-recommended Mobile Suit Gundam the Movies film comics series.
