This section of the Gundam Project is devoted to merchandise of all kinds - video, audio, books, comics, and of course those fabulous kits. Until this year no Gundam animation, and only a handful of spinoff items, have seen commercial release in the U.S.; thus, most of this section is devoted to the imported merchandise listed to the left.

The only legal way to get your mitts on Gundam titles that have yet to be released domestically is to purchase or rent them in untranslated import form. These, and other imported merchandise like books and compact discs, can be purchased from Japanese animation specialty stores or special-ordered from Japanese video, music and book stores.

Domestic Goods

Mobile Suit Gundam I, II and III
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory
At last, at last, at long last! This September, Bandai Entertainment will begin releasing English versions of these animated works. Initially released in subtitled VHS video form, they'll be sold exclusively through Bandai's AnimeVillage.com Web site (and only to North American customers). Each tape contains three or four episodes, or a complete movie. The tapes carry a suggested retail price of $29.99, and a direct price of $24.99. If you order them in complete sets - all three movies, or all six video volumes - the pricing comes to $20 per tape. AnimeVillage.com should begin taking orders around September 8, and begin shipping around September 15.

Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story
The Blue Destiny
Mizuho Takayama's comic adaptation of this Sega Saturn video game will be serialized in MixxZine starting this winter. See our Works page for The Blue Destiny for more information.

Gundam Mobile Suit I, II and III
An English edition of creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's three-volume novelization of the original Gundam series. The books were published under Ballantine Books's Del Rey imprint from 1990 to 1991 under the titles "Awakening," "Escalation" and "Confrontation," each priced at $4.95 and numbering 224 pages. Long out of print, they can still be found in used book stores. But beware - the story in the novels is drastically different from that of the animation!

Sunrise Animation Film Comics
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083
A comic adaptation of the Gundam 0083 video series published by Viz Comics. As a "film comic," it uses frames from the animation as comic strip panels. Thirteen issues were published from 1993 to 1994, priced at $4.95 apiece. Each is 48 pages, including a few pages of background information.

Gundam 0079 The War For Earth
An original adventure game for Windows 95 and the Power Macintosh, developed by Presto Studios and briefly published by Bandai Digital Entertainment in early 1998. While the game play was unspectacular, it featured gorgeous computer graphics and lots of background material. Rumor has it that this was actually on sale for a few weeks before BDE imploded, so you may be able to find a copy if you search diligently enough.
