The MantaDB Web Tool

Using the MantaDB Indexing Options

The Indexing Options tab of the configuration dialog box determines the actions MantaDB will take when indexing incoming web pages. The configuration dialog box is started by pressing the configuration button on the MantaDB toolbar displayed within Internet Explorer.

Content Options

Index Words Containing Numbers: MantaDB has an efficient storage algorithm based on common letter sequences in words. Words that contain numbers tend to have many non-similar sequences and this makes the database larger. If you feel that there will never be any need to search MantaDB's database for words containing numbers leave this box unchecked.

Never Index Words ? Chars or Less: Small words such as the, or, and, who, if, but clutter up the database taking up space without really adding any meaningful search abilities. If you feel you will never need to search for small words check this box and set the character limit to the level desired.

Do Not Reject Words With These High ASCII Chars: By default MantaDB only recognizes characters from the standard English alphabet. If MantaDB should index extra characters check this box and fill the characters in the box provided. The FAQ has more details on this feature.

Index Database Location
Index Database Location: This section determines where MantaDB will look to find its database files. By default MantaDB looks for its database files in the installation directory.

New DB: This button will create a new database in the location specified by the Index Database Location item. If a database already exists in the specified directory you will be prompted for confirmation before old database is overwritten.

Note: It not recommended that the MantaDB database be placed on a network drive. Network drives are notoriously slow and MantaDB relies quite a bit on drive speed. If you do place the database on a slow network drive you could see pages appear to load slower in your Internet Explorer Browser. The FAQ has more details on this issue.
