Cachet appears as a floating toolbar consisting of 3 buttons.
The arrows allow you to browse selected documents from the cache in chronological
order - the order you originally viewed them.
The center button pops up the Cache Browser
which allows you to select documents by title or search for documents
by text,date, or website.
Pressing the right mouse button with the cursor on the toolbar or any Cachet window
pops up the Cachet menu.
Among other functions, the
menu allows you to quickly copy the recovered document you are viewing with
its links and images preserved.
Hold down the left mouse button to drag the toolbar around the screen.
Place it where you find it most convenient to use.

The Search Dialog
The Search Dialog begins a new search through the cache for previously
viewed documents. When Cachet is first run, it appears automatically.
Later, you can start a new search using the Search button on
the Browser Dialog, or by selecting Search Cache from the menu
available by clicking the right mouse button on any Cachet window or the
toolbar.

The search dialog consists of three panels. The top panel allows you to select which
directory you wish to search. Normally, you would search the Netscape cache directory.
If so, you need never change this panel.
However, you can also search through archives of saved documents, or directories
of documents you have created for your own web site. The Netscape Cache
button places the default cache directory name in the input window. The
default cache directory is set using the Properties sheet [F10].
The Browse... button allows you to select alternate directories for
searching.
The second panel selects the timeframe for the search. You can use the popdown
menu (arrow on right) to select
predetermined dates such as today, yesterday, the past week, or month, or you can
enter a specific date and time in yyyy.mm.dd hh:mm format.
If you want to see the web pages you viewed last
Thursday, just select Thursday from both the From and Until
selectors.
To see all of the documents in the
cache, select from the beginning until now.
The third panel allows you to select documents based on a word or string that is found in
the text of the document. This is extremely handy for finding documents that you viewed
days or even weeks ago. Press List Recent Documents to browse the
selected documents. In this case, everything seen online today.
If no text is entered in the search
text box, all pages selected by date will be shown.

The Cache Browser

The documents Cachet finds in the cache will be displayed in
the browse window so you can select the one to view.
Cachet is very fast.
It only takes a few seconds to search a 10 megabyte cache.
Double click on the document you want to view.
Cachet will rebuild the document and insert images from the cache.
The reconstructed page will be displayed by Netscape automatically.
If it is hidden, the Cache Browser can be popped to the top by clicking
on the center button on the toolbar.
It shows the documents found by the last search.
To start a new search of the entire cache, press the Search button.
The central scroll box shows the time and date that you originally viewed the page followed
by the name of the file in the cache and the title as obtained from the original document.
Documents that you have already viewed will be marked with a bullet.
The original URL
of the selected document is shown in a text box which you can copy (ctl-c) and paste
directly into other applications.
Clicking on the WWW button will tell Netscape
to retrieve the current version of the selected document from its website,
(if it is still available, and if you are connected to a network).
Below the list box are three panels showing the number of matching documents found,
the number of files in the cache, and the total space used by the documents in the
cache directory. At the left, the green "recycle" button will refresh the display if the cache
has changed since the list was generated. On the right (not visible here) is a "STOP" button
for aborting the cache search before it has finished searching.
The View Page button transfers the text data to Netscape for viewing. Images
are not recovered and links are not adjusted. This is useful for quick checking to
see what the page contains, or to save time on a slower computer.
The View Document button is the equivalent of double-clicking on the desired document.
It will rebuild the document and display it using Netscape. All clickable
links will point to their full web addresses.
If multiple documents are selected,
they will all be rebuilt and you will be able
to view them using Netscape's own forward and back arrows.
Hot tip: If you select several documents at once
and click View Document all the selected pages will be rebuilt and
placed in Netscape's memory cache. Then you can use Netscape's forward
and back arrows to instantly move through the documents.
The View Images button pops up a list of GIF and JPG files from the last document rebuilt.
These files may be viewed individually using Netscape, from which you can save them for your
collection of clip art, photography, or erotica.
The Copy button copies a document along with all of its JPG and GIF
images to a new folder or diskette. The document's title will be suggested as the filename.
If multiple documents are selected, they will each be copied to the new
folder and any links between documents will be relinked to the local pages.
This allows you to copy a set of documents for later viewing or distribution
to your associates. If the documents are to be viewed on a Windows 3.11 system,
it is recommended you select the
short filename option in the setup.
The Quit button quits Cachet.

Deleting Documents from the Cache
To delete a document from the cache, select the document in the Browser
window and press the Delete key on your keyboard.
Deleting the file from the Netscape cache directory removes the file
but does not update Netscape's database of available files. Although
this does not appear to cause problems, it cannot be guaranteed that
it may not cause a problem under certain circumstances, or with future
versions of Netscape. For this reason it is recommended that the
feature be used sparingly.
