Stage 4 Overview: Customize the Browser

In the fourth stage of the IEAK wizard, you can customize the following:

General settings

• The browser title bar and toolbar background bitmap. When you select a bitmap, make sure that the colors contrast with text.

• The Internet Explorer logo in the upper right corner of the browser.
• Start, Search, and online support pages for the browser.
• Favorites, Favorites folders, and links for the Links bar. The maximum number of favorites or links you can add is 200; semicolons and slashes are not allowed in the titles.
• Welcome messages and desktop wallpaper.
• Active Desktop items, if the Windows Desktop Update is installed.
• Customize My Computer and Control Panel by specifying your own Mycomp.htt and Controlp.htt files.
• A user agent string. A user agent is optional; it's a way to track the usage of your customized browser.
• Automatic browser configuration. You can provide a path to files that automatically configure your browser.

Settings for corporate administrators

• Customize the Active Channel bar. You can set up channels on your computer and then import them as the corporate standard.
• Desktop toolbar settings. You can import the desktop toolbar settings from your own computer as the standard for your company.
• Software distribution channels. A software distribution channel is an automatic way to update software on a user's computer using new channel, or Webcasting, technology.
• Proxy settings.
• Settings for site certificates and Authenticode Security.
• Settings for security zones and ratings.

Settings for Internet service providers

• Channels. You can add one channel and delete other channels, such as your competitor's channel. To add a custom channel, you need information about the graphics and the Channel Definition Format file.
• Add a custom desktop component.

• Method of user sign-up—via Internet Sign-up Server or Serverless Signup.
• Custom sign-up files. You can specify the URL of the server script that generates signup .ins files and the path of the folder that contains the sign-up files. For more information about the .ins format, see the ISP/INS Reference Guide.
• Parameters for the dial-up networking connection that customers will use to connect to your Internet sign-up server.
• Path of the script file if you perform optional log-on scripting.
