William Shakespeare,
London's rising star
London
is all abuzz over the plays of William
Shakespeare. His Richard
III,
A Midsummer
Night's Dream, and Romeo
and Juliet have established Shakespeare in the premier
ranks of London’s playwrights. English clergyman and schoolmaster
Francis Meres has said of Shakespeare in his recent book Palladis
Tamia: Wit's Treasury, "As Plautus and Seneca are accounted
the best for Comedy and Tragedy among the Latins: so Shakespeare
among the English is the most excellent in both kinds for the stage."
Shakespeare
is also a poet and an actor as well as a playwright. His long poem
"Venus and Adonis" was an immediate success. Shakespeare
is currently a member of the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, one of
the most popular acting companies in London. Be it through a fine
performance on stage, or through his characterizations and lively
scripts, Shakespeare is sure to please everyone from the refined
gentleman to the groundling in the yard clamoring for a swordfight. |
